This document provides guidelines for using commas in a series, around interrupters, and in compound sentences. It defines a series as having one fewer comma than items, with a comma between each item. An interrupter is information between two commas that can be removed without changing the sentence's meaning. A compound sentence joins two complete sentences with a comma and coordinating conjunction like "and" or "but." It provides examples of each case and exercises rewriting sentences as compounds.
