Ajax was a gigantic Greek warrior, second only to Achilles in strength and bravery, who played a pivotal role in helping the Greeks defeat the Trojans during the Trojan War. As the son of Telamon, the king of Salamis, Ajax was one of the two heroes named Ajax fighting for the Greeks. He engaged in legendary single combat with the Trojan hero Hector, and they exchanged gifts after their duel was ended by heralds, with Ajax giving Hector his belt which Achilles later used to drag Hector's body.
