This study was done to determine the patient characteristics and the cause of injury at St John Eye Hospital – Hebron. This may enable an appropriate intervention in the prevention of such injuries.
12. Summary
• Injuries leading to traumatic Hyphema occur
mostly in the street, and frequently affect
children and young adolescents.
• Over 7% resulted in blindness in the affected
eye.
• Occupational-related hyphema that caused
injuries was mostly in craftsperson; none of
them used protective goggles
13. Summary
• We should focus on the prevention of stone,
stick and toy gun-pellet related eye injuries in
the streets (prevent these items from
reaching children)
• Encouraging workers to wear protective
goggles at workplace (e.g. hats in construction
sites)
