Expressions for talking about transport and
                                      travel
I arrived at Stansted airport and
went to the check-in desk. The
  ground attendant gave me the
boarding pass and I went through
  security, where my hand luggage
was checked. I waited in the
  departure lounge until they called
my flight. Then, I queued at the
boarding gate and finally got on
the plane. I was sitting next to the
aisle. The plane took off on time
and I started to relax. At last, I was
  on my way home!
I went to the ticket office at Victoria bus
station and bought a return ticket
from London to Manchester. I had to
wait at stop12 for the bus, when it
arrived I showed my ticket to the
driver and got on. The bus was very
comfortable with a video and air
  conditioning. The only problem was
the traffic on the motorway. We
stopped once to pick up more
passengers in St Albans. It took us 6
hours to get to Manchester Bus
Station, when I got off the bus I was
  very tired!
I went to the ticket office at
the station and bought a
cheap-day return ticket to
London. I waited on platform 2
until the train arrived. I got a
seat next to the window. It was
rush-hour so many passengers
got on at the other stations
and they had to stand up for
the journey. We finally arrived
at London Liverpool Street
Station and I got off and went
through the barrier. I was ready
for a great day in London.
I decided to take the car to the town
centre to do some shopping. I got in
and started the engine. I didn’t have
much petrol, so I stopped at a petrol
station to fill up. Near the town centre I
had to wait in a traffic jam at a junction
  because the traffic lights weren’t
working. Finally I got to the town centre
and went to the multi-storey car park. I
parked the car and got out. I needed a
cup of coffee after all the driving and
  waiting!!
It was a lovely day, so I decided to go for
a bike ride in the countryside. I got my
bicycle out the garage but saw that
one of my tyres was flat, so I had to
pump it up. I put on my helmet and got
on my bike and started pedalling along
the cycle lane into the country. There
are a lot of hills where I live and it was
hard work riding up them but very nice
going downhill. I stopped for a cup of
tea at a nice café before
cycling home.
I wanted to explore London on foot. I
opened my street map and decided
where I wanted to go. I crossed the
street from my hotel and walked
towards Traflagar Square. There was a
lot of traffic, so I had to wait at a
  pedestrian crossing to cross the
roads. I walked around the Trafalgar
Square . There were a lot of people
walking on the pavement so I decided
to continue my walk in St James
Park. It was lovely strolling through
the park in the middle of London. I
stopped in the park to give my feet a
rest and ate my sandwiches. Then I
  walked back to my hotel
