Hospitals as Innovation Incubators An era of accelerating technological discovery has pushed the bench to the patient’s bedside. Today, hospitals are taking technological innovation in-house, some inspired by the opportunity to be first; some recognizing that modernization is the key to survival in an increasingly dynamic, competitive and cost-conscious medical marketplace. Dozens of hospitals have launched formal innovation centers, led by C-level innovation officers, designed to encourage invention and commercialize discoveries.
