Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) began in 1989 as Hummingbird Island Helicopters, ferrying guests between Male International Airport and resorts via helicopter. It later added seaplanes to its fleet and changed its name to Hummingbird Island Airways and then Trans Maldivian Airways. In 2013, TMA partnered with investment firm Blackstone and merged with competitor Maldivian Air Taxi, operating together under the TMA name while continuing to be led by its founders. TMA provides resort transfers, private charters, excursions, medical evacuations, lounge services, and photo flights, going above expectations for guests while also supporting community initiatives.
