Traineeships:
Realise the Potential!
• KM Training has been delivering Traineeships
since August 2013.
• This project aims to develop effective web-based
resources and activities to support delivery staff
• Traineeships meet the pre-apprenticeship needs
of our main employer www.kieranmullin.co.uk.
• Our experience has given us a firm understanding
of how delivery staff can be supported in order to
benefit learner achievement.
• The project uses a three pronged approach.
2.Eligibility:

3.‘APP’
for capturing work
experience
1. Recruitment
Recruitment
• Most applicants are not aware of Traineeships
• The profile of the Traineeship brand requires more investment
• Local Government agencies and their staff are not aware of
the programme and need to be fully
Proposal:
• the TSSP Traineeship website should reflect the
apprenticeship website format, to raise the Traineeship profile
and link project resources.
• to facilitate and evaluate local Traineeship workshops for
stakeholders to promote the programme and resources we
develop.
2. Eligibility
Eligibility
There are confusing differences for staff in terms of:
• identifying eligibility for 16-18 and 19+ age groups as both
groups have different aims within the Traineeship programme,
• understanding the funding criteria and provider impact,
• understanding the restrictions and impact of 19+ learners
who are claiming benefits, and
• communicating IAG of the programme potential to applicants.
Proposal:
To create a web-based resource for stakeholders to include:
• Eligibility flow charts for both age groups (16-18 and 19+)
linked to either existing resources or newly created guidance
• Traineeship success stories
3. ‘APP’
Validation and Valuing Traineeships
• For the 16-18 trainees, who are focussing on work placement skills,
there is no standardised way to effectively encapsulate their learner
journey experience to validate and enable a constructive
development process to take place.
• Employers too should have the opportunity to feed into this
mutually beneficial validation process in addition to being required
to offer the trainee an end interview and reference which can be
incorporated as good practice into provider agreements.
Proposal:
To create an ‘App’ and /or web-based programme to:
• enable trainees and employers to validate and record daily
experiences on the learning journey,
• enable delivery staff to effectively manage the work placement.

  • #8 Technical Development considerations: “there’s an app for everything!!’ … should we add to it? Need? … focus groups Web, development software or native? What already exists?
