The name of the dance comes from the musical
instrument that accompanies the dance. It is a
men's dance that consists of two parts: the slow
and the fast.
In the fast part of the dance the first dancer can
lead the cycle in different formations.

Women’s dance danced in

The name comes from the
words of the song referring
to a beautiful girl, Gerakina.
According to the tradition,
Gerakina, trying to pump
water from a well, fell in
and was not able to survive
despite the efforts of her
beloved.

21. Hasapiko
The Hasapikos is a type of dance and songs of the Greeks from Constantinople. The
dance consists of three parts, and the dancers are held by the hands down. Its origins
date back to the Byzantine period, when it was imitating dance battle with swords of
the union of Greek butchers in Istanbul. The first row held knives, sticks and whips,
while the second one had guns.

22. Men’s dance, now danced in a straight line,
mostly by men (rarely women).

23. In the past, if someone wanted to dance
Hasapiko , had to wear a cap with raised
molding, dancing the same steps as if they
are all one body. The steps and description
looked like ritual movements in an effort to
connect the dance to seniority, the army of
Alexander the Great or the representation of
attitudes of warriors.

Η ονομασία προέρχεται από την τούρκικης προέλευσης λέξη kasap, που σημαίνει κρεοπώλης , ενώ η αντίστοιχη ελληνική ονομασία ήταν μακελάρικος . Ο όρος στη συνέχεια χρησιμοποιήθηκε για να υποδηλώσει μόνο τη γρήγορη εκδοχή του χασάπικου, γνωστή ως και χασαποσέρβικο .
