Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins launched aboard Apollo 11 from Cape Canaveral, Florida in 1969 on a mission to land on the moon. They launched aboard the massive Saturn V rocket, which had three stages to propel them out of Earth's orbit and onto the lunar surface. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed the lunar module on the Sea of Tranquility while Michael Collins orbited above in the command module. Armstrong uttered his famous words upon becoming the first person to set foot on the moon's surface, saying "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
