all kinds of luxury designer lifestyle goods. Not only are you
spoiled for choice; it's all super easy to navigate.

the bustling hot markets, and most complexes are easily
accessible via the city's modern and efficient Skytrain (BTS)
system.

most malls and department stores stay open until at least 21:00 -
and some even as late as 22:00.
So there's plenty of time to make the most of the city's attractions
during the day, and fit in a bit of retail therapy either before or
after dinner.
Many markets offer great after dark shopping opportunities too -
and incredible bargains in the moonlight. The most popular after

10. The mother of all IT shops, the entirety of Pantip Plaza is dedicated to
computer and technology items. The multistory shopping centre on
Petchaburi Road offers a wide selection of stores, selling everything from
computers and computer-related accessories, including; parts, printers,
digital cameras, MP3 players, PDAs, and much more.
Pantip Plaza is also (in)famous for its inexpensive counterfeit versions of
software and DVDs. Although you might not be a techno-geek, it’s worth
visiting when you're in the area for the pure fascination value.
Walking through the main entrance of this IT complex, you'll be greeted
with copies of the latest software for sale (100 - 150 baht), along with
DVDs, MP3 CDs, and anything else that can be put on a disk. If you're
looking for a new wireless mouse, USB stick, CD-Rom drive, or whatever
you can think of, sift your way through as many vendors as possible to
compare prices and find the best deal.

13. The busy sidewalks of Maharat Road, from Wat Pho to
Thammasat University, offer a fascinating street shopping
experience. Here, the word street shopping is taken
literally, as vendors spread out their ware on a piece of
blanket right on the pavement throughout the entire
stretch.
The eclectic collection ranges from antique coins,
Moroccan lamps and bronze ware to vintage bags,
amulets and a whole gamut of indie fashion accessories –
mostly of second-hand nature. As with other street
shopping experiences, haggling is a must.

15. The centre of the backpackers' universe is bursting with fun, tacky
and useful things to blow your baht on. Its ubiquitous travel shops
can arrange your outward journey, whether it be flights, trains or
bus tickets. The many tailors will happily whip you up a sharp suit
ready for when you arrive back from the islands.
A must for the beach is a gripping read, and fortunately several of
the city's best second hand-book shops are here. Modern
essentials aren't neglected either: internet cafes, chemists,
convenience stores, banks and monetary exchanges abound.

18. What you will find here are beautiful Chinese temples, Taoist places of
learning and traditional Chinese medicine shops selling all sorts of
fascinating remedies. The small alleys and streets between Yaowarat
Road and the Chao Phraya River are crammed with market stalls and
small shops jostling to sell just about everything imaginable; from hair
accessories, tea sets, hardware and food, to fabric, strange vegetables
imported from mainland China and Chinese funeral items.
Once crossing Chakraphek Road you will enter Pahurat – one of
Chinatown’s premier attractions. Goods such as flip-flops, toys,
household items, and herbs can be bought here. Within these first few
blocks lie Pahurat's textile-selling action, so choose one of the many
small alleyways and dive into the heart of it all. Within, you'll find a
labyrinth of shops and vendors selling all kinds of colourful textiles.
Chinatown in essence is like one big flea market.

21. Wholesale markets in Bangkok are jampacked
with specialised products, whether flowers,
textiles or fashion accessories. Pak Khlong
Flower Market is, perhaps, the most fascinating
as it offers pleasure for all senses – watch as
truckloads after truckloads of flowers and fresh
produce arrive pre-dawn and smell the delightful
scents that fill the air.

24. Few other cities offer such a vast choice of goods, much enhanced by the polite
sales techniques and good-natured haggling that accompanies most
transactions. Provided you have sufficient time, following the standard tourists'
shopping rules will help you secure some incredible deals.
Deciding what to buy, and comparing prices around, is a good start. Things start
to get really cheap when you're buying bulk. And don't worry about carrying
everything around with you; most places will package and deliver straight to your
hotel, and there are also several shipping agents around. The golden rule for
bargaining is to do so with a smile - your most important negotiating tool!
For more shopping venues, head towards the Ratchaprasong and Chidlom-
Ploenchit areas, here you'll find Central World, and other options like the posh
Gaysorn, a Big C Superstore (department store), as well as upmarket Amarin
Plaza and Peninsula Plaza. A skywalk also connects from here all the way to that
other of holy shopping grounds, Siam.

27. Some of Bangkok's best-kept secrets are found in local
markets. They offer an array of items at very low prices,
and quite often contain the friendliest variety of Thai
people.
