In report #1, you will be responsible for a
written research proposal
to pitch your recommendation on how to deliver a quality business research effort to help Company “Media Web” with a specific HR business issue.
EACH REPORT SHOULD BE A MAXIMUM OF
10 PAGES DOUBLE-SPACED
(before appendices, table of contents, bibliography, etc.)
You will be required to pick and work on one business scenario. This selection must be made from the two options outlined below in the Background section.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Careful thought should be given to your selection of the HR business issue in Report #1, since the same issue will need to be worked on from an information systems perspective for Report #2.
GENERAL PROJECT CONSIDERATIONS
1)
The successful completion of this research project is predicated on the student’s capability of understanding the key concepts and terms outlined in each lesson.
STUDENTS MUST MAINTAIN ACTIVE COURSE READING THROUGHOUT IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ASSIGNMENT.

contain evidence that business research theory has been applied.

Background
You are to consider yourself and independent consultant, hired by fictional company “Media Web.” Media Web is a fictional private company headquartered in Toronto. Media Web is the world’s largest online developer of phone applications, and websites in the world. They have developed over 5000 phone apps, including the number one best selling game of all time, Happy Fish. The company hires people from around the world, and globally has over 3000 non-unionized employees. Of these employees, 2000 are based in Toronto and Ottawa, and the other thousand work remotely around the world in virtual based teams.
The company’s HR department is centralized in the Toronto office, and consists of 50 people. The HR department undertakes HR operations, compensation and benefits, recruitment and selection, training and development, as well as occupational health and safety functions for the company.
The VP of HR is currently concerned with two business related issues at Media Web. The VP knows that some further investigation and research is going to be required to get a better understanding of the underlying issues and potential solution to any problems. .
They say that one’s success greatly depends on numerous things, such as knowledge, skills, perseverance, and determination, just to name a few. But do you know that choosing the right education institution also plays a major role when it comes to shaping your future?

Top 10 Search Strategies
1. The top 10 list was culled and rank-ordered from recommendations provided by
Korn/Ferry's global network of executive recruiters:
10) Start the search immediately: Don’t take extended time off. The search process can take 6-12
months for senior executives.
9) Treat the search process like a job: Establish your schedule and hold yourself accountable for
making progress daily.
8) Be open to interim positions, freelancing or consulting: Companies are cutting fixed costs in
today’s economy, but may have consulting opportunities for projects or niche specialties to
compensate for reduced head-count. These opportunities enable you to draw an income,
maintain your skills and move you to the front of the line when hiring begins.
7) Be willing to commute or relocate: As industries evolve, career opportunities migrate. Know
where the positions are going in your field and be willing to move for the right opportunity.
6) Don’t panic, be patient, but don’t be picky: Appearing overanxious to a prospective
employer will only diminish your value. And certainly you don’t want to jump from one
precarious position to the next. But dream jobs are scarce in today’s market. Remember that
most positions are not strictly bound by their job description but rather they are what you
make of them.
5) Be flexible: Don’t get hung up on compensation structure and title. Coming in at a pay grade
or title below your ideal may work to your advantage. As you exceed expectations, title and
salary will adjust accordingly in time.
4) Keep sharp: Stay current on the latest news, trends and technologies that are important in
your industry.
3) Stay fit: Don’t neglect your health and diet, which too often lapse with the stress of job
searching.
