Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world at 8,848 meters above sea level. K2 is the second highest at 8,611 meters, followed by Kangchenjunga at 8,586 meters. The top 10 highest mountains also include Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nanga Parbat, and Annapurna. All of these mountains over 8,000 meters were first successfully climbed between the early 1950s and 1960s by international expeditions.
