The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

je vzlínavosť vody v kapilárach pôdy a hornín,
schopnosť zmáčania, tvorba peny, ...
3. VISKOZITA – spolu s hustotou podstatne ovplyvňuje
hydraulické správanie sa vody
- od jej hodnoty závisí rýchlosť filtrácie vody pieskom a
rýchlosť sedimentácie (ukladania materiálu)
- zmenšuje sa zvyšovaním teploty
4. ELEKTRICKÁ VODIVOSŤ – závisí od koncentrácie,
pohyblivosti a teploty iónov
- zvyšuje sa obsahom solí a plynov
biopolymermi
MNOŽSTVO VODY V ĽUDSKOM TELE
• obsah vody v organizme sa znižuje vekom
• u novorodencov tvorí voda až 80% telesnej hmotnosti, v
dospelosti asi 60% a v starobe klesá približne na 53%
• u žien je obsah vody o niečo nižší
• z tkanív majú najväčší obsah vody tekuté zložky (plazma
lymfa) a mäkké tkanivá (mozog 80%, svaly 75%)
• najmenší obsah majú kosti (20%) a prakticky bezvodné
tkanivo je zubná sklovina (len 0,2%)
5. MOČ
PH moču
• pri normálnej výžive má zvyčajne hodnotu približne 6,0
a v priebehu dňa sa kolíše v rozmedzí 4,8 – 8,0
• pri vysokom prísune bielkovín pH klesá, pretože vzniká
nadbytok sulfátov a fosfátov
• moč zdravého človeka je žltý až tmavooranžový
ČO JE TO VLASTNE MOČ
• močom sa organizmus zbavuje látok (toxických aj
netoxických), ktoré vznikli látkovou premenou
• začína filtráciou primárneho moču z lúmena
glomerulárnych kapilár do štrbinového priestoru
Browmanovej kapsuly
• súčasne glomerulárny filter zadrží krvinky a všetky
vysokomolekulárne látky
FAKTY

dosahovali by oveľa lepšie výsledky.
7. AKO FUNGUJE URINOMETER?
1. v chemickom laboratóriu sme si pripravili
pomôcky určené k meraniu
2. do odmerného valca sme naliali ocot
3. skalibovaný urinometer pri teplote 20°C sme
pomaly vložili do valca
rozdielnou hustotou
7. do odmerného valca sme naliali vodu s
teplotou okolo 19 °C
pohybovali okolo 998 kg/m3
8. HODNOTY
• na základe odčítania výsledkov môžeme
zistiť nasledujúce hodnoty:
1. ZDRAVÝ MOČ – 1005 – 1035 kg/m3
2. HUSTOTA VÄŠČIA AKO 1035 kg/m3 –
dehydratácia, cukrovka
3. HUSTOTA NIŽŠIA AKO 1,005 kg/m3 –
zriedený moč, použitie diuretík
(„močových preháňadiel“) alebo chronické
zlyhanie obličiek
Jedným z našich cieľov bolo vyskúšať náš návrh „na vlastnej koži“ v podobe dvojdňového
prieskumu. Vybrali sme 30 študentov 20. ročníka, ktorý nám ho pomohli nasledovne
zrealizovať.
1. deň (pôvodný pitný režim študentov)
8:00
• hustota moču od 1.006 - 1.030 25 žiakov (zdraví)
• hustota vyššia ako 1,035 5 žiakov (dehydratácia)
14:00
• hustota moču od 1.005 - 1.032 8 žiakov (zdraví)
• hustota vyššia ako 1,035 22 žiakov (dehydratácia)
2. deň (dodržiavanie pitného režimu)
8:00
• hustota moču od 1,008 - 1,034 28 žiakov (zdraví)
• hustota vyššia ako 1,035 2 žiakov (dehydratácia)
14:00
• hustota od 1.010 - 1.029 26 žiakov (zdraví)
• hustota vyššia ako 1.035 4 žiakov (dehydratácia)
Výsledok: 1. deň študenti dodržiavali svoj pitný režim, pričom sme zistili, že poobede je viac
ako polovica študentov dehydratovaných. Na 2. deň dodržiavali pitný režim predpísaný nami a
bolo dokázané, že takmer všetci študenti mali v poobedných hodinách hladinu moču v norme.
PRIESKUM
9. NAŠA MAKETA
ZLOŽENIE
1. podklad – vyrobený z bukového
dreva v tvare písmena L
2. pisoár (zvislá strana) – vyrobený z 2
nádob z umelej hmoty
3. urinometer (nad pisoárom) – vďaka
nemu zisťujeme hladinu vody v tele
pomocou hustoty moču.
pozn.: detailná atrapa urinometra je
zobrazená v pravej časti
4. údaje s výslednými hodnotami moču
5. odpadová rúrka – naznačená čiernou
farbou
6. hadičky – napojené priamo z pisoára
do odmerného valca
7. tlačidlo – slúžiace na dezinfekciu
odmerného valca a odtok moču 1.

10. 1. Študent sa vymočí moč steká do zásobnej nádoby pod pisoárom, kde sa
zhromažďuje celý jeho objem.
pohyblivou klapkou hmotnosť vody tlačí klapku dole a tá vytláča moč
trubicou hore do urinometra.
5. Študent si odčíta výslednú hodnotu porovná ju s hraničnými normami a
prípadne zistí, aké má problémy.
6. Pre to, aby tieto výsledky zostali v anonymite a pre možnosť použitia
ďalším používateľom, študent opäť stlačí tlačidlo, ktoré vytiahne plavák
von zospodu otvorí zásobnú banku urinometra, čím moč vytečie do
Dezinfekčný prostriedok vytečie taktiež odpadovou rúrou a
klapka sa uzavrie. Urinometer je znovu pripravený.
