6. Why I Went With Leasing Option?
1. Affordable
Paid $250 application fee, and signed up for 16 panel 4 kw
system. Pay $100 per quarter for 15 years.
2. Less Risk
Solar panels are maintained by Solar Solution LLC since they
own them.
3. Surplus Energy Production = Credit on Electricity Bill
Panels generate more electricity than I use and I get a credit on
my bill.
9. Lessons Learned
1. Buy Solar Panels If You Can
Instead of leasing, see if you can buy them. You will benefit from the federal tax credit
and SREC credits.
2. Consider Wind & Angle
Wind can play an important role in how the panels are placed on the roof. Check into
the optimal angle for the panels to generate the most power.
3. Go With Roof Rack System if Possible
Panels are mounted to the rack, not the roof. May need to get neighbors’ permission
to attach the racking system to the parapet walls.
4. Consider Panel Quality & Warranty
Not all panels are made the same. Some are more efficient than others. Find out all
the options for the panels and their warranties.
5. Evaluate System Size & Possibility to Add Panels in the Future
Leasing may not give you the option to add panels in the future, but if you buy your
system and your electricity needs increase and your roof has the space, you may be
able to add additional panels.
