- TimeControl is a tremendously flexible timesheet and everyone needs not only to do timesheets in their own way but to use timesheets for different purposes. TimeControl can be used to serve the needs of Finance, Payroll, Human Resources and Project Management all at the same time and deliver reports and data used for Time and Attendance, Time and Billing, R&D Tax Credits, Project Management progress, Vacation approvals and much, much more.This presentation looks at how to change the timesheet entry in TimeControl to show percentages instead of hours.
- The standard TimeControl timesheet can be customized in many ways but the default shows entries in hours and minutes just like we see here.
- Clicking on options allows us to change the display from hours and minutes to a numeric decimal entry. If we’re going to enter time in terms of a percent of the data, then this is the change required. Since the total per week per charge code won’t make much sense in this kind of entry, let’s also hide that column at this time.
- Now we enter the time as a percent of the day. Here’s the same timesheet as before but with the entries in percentages. The total per day would probably be 100% and you can enforce this using TimeControl’s Validation Rules.
- Some organizations may want some employees to enter time in hours and others to enter time in percentages. If we are going to report all of that together we need to get all the data into the same lowest common denominator which would probably be hours. By entering in the type of display in a user-defined field of the employee table and the number of hours per day into another field, we can then use TimeControl’s Post-processing procedures to translate the percentages into hours and minutes and store them in the TimeControl database for later reporting and exporting. It’s the best of both worlds: The end-user gets to enter in percentages, and the organization gets to report in hours!
