Early Perceptions Potential difficulty due to the distance/schedule conflicts that our group members had. Potential for our group members to take control of the project from Sarah. Ability to keep the focus on service learning not volunteerism. Personal desire to aid troops overseas.
Service Learning in a Virtual Era – Our Setting Designed for students with difficult schedules and those who study primarily at regional campuses or through Webcourses. Meetings were held weekly at 9pm, making use of the Connect Pro program.
Site/Community Demographics
Personal Demographics 28 yrs. old. Married. SSE major, graduating SP2011 Doesn’t like talking about himself or being photographed.
Engagement Activities Weekly Meetings. Daily Email Contact. Creation of the flyer. Collection/Redemption of cans and donations. Researching and creating a list of goods to purchase. http://www.give2thetroops.org/items.htm Coordination between our two groups. Shopping trip with Sara. Packing and shipping. Reflection
Participant Demographics Platoon of 11 Soldiers from Colorado,  currently serving in Iraq. Current UCF Students (both traditional and non-traditional),  Sarah and our facilitator Alisa.
Reflection of my Experience Positive use of time. Helping someone else meet their goal. Experience working with a dynamic group.
Benefits for Teaching Practical group experience. Experience in a group led by an individual with a disability. Positive alteration of perception of the abilities of individuals with disabilities.
