Thriller sequence- Jack. Ellie and Caroline
In this screenshot, its
from the POV angle
of the main character
which we meet first
in this thriller
opening. The
bedroom we can see
is pink and girly
which suggests to the
target audience that
we are looking at a
young girls bedroom
which enhances the
sense of panic within
the main character
and makes us feel
sorry for him.
This screenshot includes low
key lighting which causes
tension and suspense within
this scene. The young children
on the floor make us want to
feel sorry for them and lets us
connect with the main
character even more. Also the
fact that they are wrapped up
in blankets and curled up,
makes us think its cold and
this makes us feel even more
sorry for them. The camera
angle is a medium-long shot
which is not an interesting
shot as much which lets us
take more interest into what is
happening in the scene.
In this screenshot, I can see
that this is the very first scene
and the what we assume is
the main character, as he is
the first person we meet in
the opening, is relaxed and
lying down in bed. This sets a
warm, comfortable tone and
then makes the action which
is coming later on seem more
dramatic to the audience. The
camera angle in this
screenshot (Medium shot) lets
is see just enough of the
character and the Mise-En-
Scene to give us an
understanding of where he is
and why he is there.
This screenshot is of the
main character, as a high
angle shot, rushing down
stairs to look for his
children which at this
point, no one knows
where they are. The high
angle shot suggests to us,
as an audience that he is
not in control anymore
and that he has no power
of what happens so that as
if we are looking down on
him as an audience. We
could possible sue some
high angle shots in our
thriller video as Syd, the
boy in our storyline is in
control and if anything
the creature is in control
of him instead of himself.
In this screenshot, we can see
another high angle looking at the
floor, as we can see a note on the
floor saying where the children
are. We understand that this is
about the children as before we see
this note on the floor, the dad is
rushing downstairs looking for
them and then he looks at this,
while we watch him look at it with
a worried look on his face. I think
that this is a more effective way of
showing the audience whats
happening because its too different
shots, and its as if he gets to know
whats happening first before us.
This then enhances how worried
he is about the children.
The use of low key lighting
here is key to this scene, as
the mood has suddenly
dropped from the dad being
in bed to now where he is
really worried and scared
that he wont make it before
the countdown finishes. I
believe that the group edited
this to be black and white
which also hints towards the
negativity in mood. As a
group we will definitely take
this effect into consideration
and think upon it during
filming and editing. The use
of a medium shot os also
useful within this scene
because it shows exactly
what we need to see but
nothing more and nothing
too much.
