WHO IS TONY RIVERA?
Tony Rivera, the CEO of Primo Hospitality Group, has strong skills in management,
marketing and franchise development over the past 25 years. His success shows
its best in owning several restaurants both domestic and international. He is
planning to expand his boundary by opening a mixed-use space, which will include
a restaurant, demonstration kitchen and upscale market. For this project, we will be
focusing on the restaurant portion.
MISSION BAY
Mission Bay is a burgeoning residential and commercial district south of China
Basin and Oracle Park. Nestled up against the Bay, the area has been an intense
focus for redevelopment- an effort so successful that a second phase is now well
underway. A short-throw from SoMa, Union Square, and the Financial District,
Mission Bay combines the elbow room of a more open physical landscape with all
the benefits of living downtown.
Nestled between the market
area and the demonstration
kitchen, Cahaya Restaurant
features the Pink Room and the
Gathering Space.

WHO IS CAHAYA RESTAURANT?
Located inside a multipurpose market hall, Cahaya is a modern Indonesian restaurant that offers dishes that are
both influenced by western and eastern cultures. The space is designed to mimic the intimate gathering
experience of Wayang with contemporary twists.
WAYANG - THE STORY TELLER
Mission Bay is a new, progressive neighborhood of San Francisco, carrying traces of both historic and modern
establishments. Among them, 3rd Street Bridge is one of the oldest landmarks that connects the neighborhood to
the downtown area. Upon my first site visit, the bridge struck a strong impression on me as its structure’s
shadows created a magnificent lighting effect that reminded me of a traditional Indonesian puppet theater called
Wayang. UNESCO acknowledged Wayang in 2003 as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of
Humanity. This unique performance is usually an event that brings people in a village together to enjoy and share
their quality time. This idea also correlates with the client’s hope to build a community-oriented space for the
people of Mission Bay.

04THE GATHERING
“The closer you sit near the floor, the more
intimacy the conversation will be.”
THE NEW “OUTDOOR”
Inspired by the Wayang’s original seating
arrangment, The Gathering space features low,
individual stools and puffs that can be moved
around when needed, bringing the imtimate and
casual enviroment from the street of Indonesia
into the restaurant.

05THE PINK ROOM
As opposed to The Gathering’s openness, The Pink
room is slightly tucked away from the main pathway,
offering a more private and exclusive vibe for those
who seek a different experience from the crowd.
