This document is an undergraduate thesis that examines the pharmaceutical industry and alternative medicine. It argues that while Western medicine has improved health outcomes for some acute illnesses, the over-reliance on drugs has significant downsides. Preventable medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the US, with pharmaceutical companies more focused on profits than patient safety. The document also suggests that several holistic doctors working on alternative cancer treatments may have been murdered to protect the financial interests of the pharmaceutical industry.

4. What The Pharmaceutical Industry Does Not Want You to Know
I. Intro
Today, Americans live an overly complicated life that involves too much pressure
and not enough time. A jam-packed work schedule, family life, and unpredictable
everyday stressors cause individuals to feel ran down and eventually get sick. To cope
with this hectic life activity, many rely on pharmaceutical drugs to be the quick fix for
their everyday stress and anxiety problems. In regards to treatment in America, these
drugs have been the #1 remedy for treating, preventing, and alleviating the symptoms of
disease. American citizens have grown to be content with what they’re prescribed and
put their utmost faith in the science behind these labels. However, these pills have not
only diminished the quality of living buthas costed the lives of many in this country. It
has been estimated that 2.2 million hospitalized patients have serious adverse drug
reactions each year in the U.S. alone (106,000 being fatal). In examining these figures,
these errors were caused by drug administration, overdose, noncompliance, and
therapeutic failures. In other words, only these scenarios occurred in patients that were
prescribed drugs by physicians who dutifully took this allopathic medicine (MD) as
instructed. Focusing on the elimination of physical symptoms, more problems have been
provoked with long-term drug use. A lack of integration and philosophies toward
different types of medicines may be the result of America being the most expensive
health-care country in the world. Fortunately, the high price tag on drugs and surgery
isn’t the only to cure an individual.
To promote optimal health and wellbeing, alternative (holistic) medicine teaches
patients to take responsibility for their own health. Its philosophy is based on the

5. integration of allopathic (MD), osteopathic (DO), naturopathic (ND), energy, and ethno-
medicine. It address care of the whole person-- body, mind, and spirit and bases its
fundamental beliefs that unconditional love is life’s most powerful healer. There have
been countless accounts throughout mankind that have demonstrated the power of
positive thinking/attitude towards one’s health. This is also referred to as “faith healing”
coined by religious backgrounds. The alchemy behind this is love applied to body, mind,
and spirit with: diet, exercise, and attitudinal and behavioral modifications is the primary
care treatment option for alternative medicine. This is cost-effective in treating acute and
chronic illness and highly therapeutic as well. In addition, there is a 0% chance of death
risk opposed to taking pharmaceutical drugs that present many risks. Nonetheless, health
is universal; both western and alternative medicine has the strengths that would grow
stronger when used in harmony. Both in unison will speed the healing process for most
cases, and reduce the number of annual doctor visits. In addition, it would encourage an
overall feeling of safety and true health care for all.
Americans have grown accustomed to the wonderful workings of science as
pharmaceutical drugs have made their statement in our medically advanced society.
Conventional medicine has proven to be effective for a number of reasons. Prescription
drugs stimulate and mimic a well-functioning body providing great short-term relief.
Emergency situations arise in which the body calls for a quick fix to prevent death risk. A
number of these life-threatening conditions include high blood pressure, high cholesterol,
or cancer. Antibiotics have also proven to treat illness with a great success in regards to
small ailments: cough medicine, flu medication, and shots have made life easier when
dealing with short-term illness. “Since 1970, the death rate from heart disease has

6. dropped nearly 60% and deaths from stroke are down 70%. The death rate from cancer
has dropped 16% since 1990 and the death rate from HIV/AIDS has dropped more than
75% from its highest point in 1995. In addition, the average life span of Americans
increased from 69.7 years in 1960 to approximately 80 years in 2007”

people avoid death by disease and disability. Death rates for stroke, cancer, heart disease
and other deadly diseases have been lowered significantly over the last several decades.
Many categorize mainstream medicine as failing but is it really? The aforementioned
statistics prove how Western medicine can be used to further enhance society. In
addition, alternative medicine has its drawbacks as well. Due to the limited scientific
research, there is a lack of health insurance in regards to alternative medicine. It's
understandable that big time companies wouldn't want to take a risk on healthcare that
isn’t 100% proven. Despite these significant gains in healthcare over the last several
decades made by Western medicine, much criticism has doomed the pharmaceutical
industry with recent accounts of dishonesty to propel their income.
Preventable medical errors persist as the #3 killer in the United States, behind
heart disease and cancer. Although medicine today invests heavily in technology, patient
safety and productivity have not been realized. These technological tools will be to no
avail unless patient safety is ensured. “It's not just the 1,000 deaths per day that should be
huge cause for alarm, noted Joanne Disch, RN, clinical professor at the University of
Minnesota School of Nursing, who also spoke before Congress. There's also the 10,000
serious complications cases resulting from medical errors that occur each day.”

American medical system has been an unmitigated failure in not only treating chronic
illness but increasing the death rate altogether. Putting emphasis on drugs, surgical
interventions, and diagnostic tests have provoked more killings than cures as 420,000 a
year are murdered from these medical errors. This could be due to several causes: Patient
uniqueness being ignored, arrogantly rejecting the other models that don't fit this
philosophy and suppressing symptoms instead of finding the root cause. As alarming as
these numbers may appear, it seems as though an “undisclosed” agenda has been created
to keep the medical system on top.
Medical science in America has true accounts of pioneering doctors being
intimidated, threatened, and assassinated to keep the “sick care” industry in control. In
the summer of 2015, 10 holistic/alternative health doctors were murdered with another 5
missing over the course of just 5 weeks. These cases shave shook and rattled the holistic
community. Ironically, all these deaths occurred in southeast America, making them to be
potentially linked. None of these deaths were reported on national TV as these deaths
were framed as “mysterious”; leaving a lot of questions that need answers. The suspicion
level is raised even higher as these doctors had previous run in’s with the feds due to their
holistic treatments of patients. The 7th doctor found dead, Dr. Nicholas Gonzales, helped
Suzane Somers overcome breast cancer as he was a strong advocator of treating cancer in
a holistic way. His knew he had prolific research, and in an interview with Vitality
Magazine, he remarked: “I’ve been told drug companies know about my work but hope I
get hit by a bus” (http://humansarefree.com/2015/07/8-holistic-alternative-doctors-
dead.html). He passed away from “unknown causes” shortly after this interview.

8. The most remarkable of the cases was the first that involved Dr. Bradstreet on
June 19th. Three days prior to his death, his house was raided in search of his practices
with the human protein “GcMAF”. This protein is made naturally by the body and helps
the immune system ward off cancer and other diseases on a day to day basis. Although
the U.S. Food and Drug administration has outlawed it as an “unapproved drug”, it is
perfectly legal as a treatment in other nations around the world. It holds great potential in
the treatment of autism (Dr. Bradstreet’s main study), cancer, chronic fatigue, and
Parkinson's disease. It seems Georgia law-enforcement had a very specific agenda in
raiding Dr. Bradstreet’s home as they were looking for everything they could find
pertaining to this breakthrough cancer treatment GcMAF. What could be the motive
factor for murdering pioneering doctors that are working on a possible universal cancer
cure? The most common motive in the world, money; as it seems that being a holistic
health care provider, promoting natural health, can now be dangerous to one's own
health.
Nevertheless, it is important that we adapt our own self-care route to vibrant
health. Holistic health is defined more as an approach rather than treatment. It focuses on
the physical, mental, and emotional illness that is needed to be addressed to restore the
body's imbalances. It also places its focus on the root cause of the disease, with the goal
being to eliminate disease by encouraging the person to strive for healthy living.
Hippocrates, the Father of medicine, warned doctors in his Oath not to interfere with the
natural healing process of the body. “I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the
sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.

9. I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a
suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In
purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.I will not use the knife, not even on
sufferers from stone, but will withdraw in favor of such men as are engaged in this
work…” (http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=20909). This Oath
was created in 4 B.C as Hippocrates knew the potential healing process by which the
body is capable of. He was a huge advocate of holistic healing. However, even before
Hippocrates,natural healing had been known for over 5000 years. The two holistic
healing mechanisms: Ayurvedic and TCM (traditional chinese medicine) have key
determinants of success. Both base their foundation in treating the whole body and
emphasizing diet and exercise. They aim to promote health and enhance the quality of
life by providing therapeutic strategies for symptoms in holistic fashion. Unfortunately,
in regards to Ayurvedic health, there has been a concerted effort made to monitor the
regulation of herbal drugs and traditional medicine. This may be another potential action
made by the government to keep the medical industry in control. Regardless, in America
both systems are being refined and adapted to fit modern times but are performed as they
have been for thousands of years. It has always been an important component of health in
China but in recent decades it is grown in popularity in the Western world. Acupuncture,
tai chi, and herbal treatments have shown promising health benefits and can be found in
many health centers across the country. However, I feel no treatment (with the exception
of diet and exercise) can be as consistent, efficient, and cost-free more than the TCM
approach: Acupressure.
II. Study/Experiment

10. Everyone at some point their hands spontaneously to hold a painful place on the
body. For example, when one bumps their funny bone, their unconscious reaction is to
place their hand on the area. Acupressure is as ancient as the instinctive impulse to hold
your forehead or temples when you have a headache. The Chinese discovered that
pressing certain points on the body can relieve pain and also influence the functioning of
certain organs. After years of meticulous observation, Chinese physicians over 5000
years ago develop ways of curing illness by striking or piercing specific points
throughout the 12 meridians of the body. The Chinese have practiced acupressure and
acupuncture for centuries to keep themselves well and happy.
Both acupuncture and acupressure place it's beliefs that symptoms and diseases in
the body are a result of a blockage of qi (energy). This qi flows through pathways called
meridians throughout the body. These techniques aim to restore the flow of energy to
areas in the body by turning on specific points to improve health and well-being. The key
difference between these two approaches is that acupuncture uses needles while
acupressure is cost-free using just your fingers or a blunt object. Acupressure is more
suitable for everyone because by using just the hands, fingers, or elbows for pressure
provides a comfortable and manageable healing experience (other objects such as a pencil
eraser, golf ball, accupressure tools, are all effective as well). It can be used on the client's
own times and if someone is uncomfortable with the use of needles. There are over 8000
of these reflex points on the body. When stimulated, they release endorphins which are
neurochemicals that enhance the body's life force energy to aid healing. These endorphins
send healing responses to all parts of the body via these neurological pathways. Tension
yields to finger pressure, enabling blood to flow freely and toxins to be eliminated.

11. Patients seeking this form of treatment are looking to suppress symptoms
of anything from pain to anxiety. Acupressure releases tension, reduces pain, and
increases circulation for vibrant health. This self-care approach can provide relief for a
plethora of conditions: chronic fatigue, chronic muscular pain, mental stress, addiction
recovery, learning disorders, emotional imbalances, and more. When the body receives
emotional stress and trauma, the muscles contract and harden, leading to tight muscles.
This stress can be caused from multiple sources. Some examples include: witnessing a
fatal accident, suffering from an abusive incident, recurring nightmares, insomnia, or
even life-changing transitions like divorce can cause emotional problems such as anxiety,
depression, and worry. When this tension and stress is not dealt with it may stay buried
and resurface at a later time, becoming triggered by a new stress. This can lead to a result
of physical symptoms like stomachaches, ulcers, irritable problems, and more. The body's
response to unresolved issues and events lead to these physical symptoms occurring.
Acupressure can help balance and relieve all these symptoms because it works directly
with the body to relieve muscular tension, emotional balance, and the physical ailments
associated with them. Common ailments such as nausea, arthritis, back pain, and weight
loss can be relieved with acupressure by helping keep the system balanced. Because
greater circulation to a specific point is initiated during this treatment, detoxification
comes forth resulting in greater health and beauty and overall vitality. Also because of
this increased circulation, instead of the numbing effects of drugs, the fog of addiction
can be lifted bringing back a person to the awareness of the present moment by releasing
pain, stress, in heightening body awareness - which is vital for combating addictions.

12. Stress is a part of everyone's life and no approach provides a more simple, no side-effect,
cost-free way than acupressure.
The way this qi Energy flows through the body can balance these meridians
resulting in health, harmony, and happiness. To bring forth these results, pressure is
applied to an area without any movement for several minutes. Gradual, direct, and
penetrating pressure for approximately three minutes is highly ideal for desired results.
The amount of pressure applied generally depends on how fit an individual is. The
general guideline is pressure should be firm enough that it hurts a little or result in a “pain
good” feeling. Because of the meridians in the body being all interconnected, an
individual may feel pain or rush in another area of the body. This phenomenon indicates
that the areas are related (i.e. pressing a point on the wrist and feeling it in the lower
back). If done with patience and consistency, symptoms will be reduced or eliminated
completely and will sustain improvement. In some patients, the results of acupressure
can be so dramatic that it may seem like magic. When performing self-therapeutic
acupressure, key points must be kept in mind to experience full effectiveness:
- Deep and firm pressure must be used to stimulate each point
- Points are only .5 mm in diameter, so you’ll have to be precise
- When massaging acupoints, be comfortable, relaxed and breathe deeply
- Repeat the massage is often as necessary, as there are no limits to the
number of times this treatment can be performed
Acupressure is not only beneficial for pain and relief, but training and overall
mobility as well. Although all movements require coordinated motions of the body, it is
our feet we stand on that helps us walk and run. Our feet are only context sensors to the
ground with soap balance and alert us to where we are standing and moving. It is
essential for not only athletes but all people to engage in the capabilities of foot and ankle

13. acupressure to improve performance, avoid injury, and all-around move better. The
athlete with the healthier ankles is the one who avoids chronic injuries, makes quicker
pivots, stops, and has a better start (get-off) over their competition. Common injuries
such as plantar fasciitis, heel pain, ankle sprains, fractures, etc. originate from improper
foot and ankle alignment or lack of flexibility and strength. In addition, improper
alignment of the ankle will result in a lack of awareness in regards to ankle positioning
and can increase the chance of injury in other joints and tissues of the body.
For centuries, athletes and coaches are searched far to find ways to improve
athletic performance. This has led to advances in equipment, nutrition, and training
techniques. However, any of these can be nullified if an athlete suffers from qi
imbalance or strength imbalances that disable an athlete from perfroming to their full
potential. Acupressure does a number of things to improve athletic performance: ease
pre-game anxiety, improve sleep, strengthen immune system, speed recovery time, and
increase awareness. It naturally boosts energy levels and improves overall performance
by raising the athletes mobility. However, in my study along with three athletes I decided
to implement three non-athletes to ensure that acupressure can benefit society overall
with enhanced mobility.
For three days (Monday, Wednesday Friday), I provided each subject with a 10
minute acupressure pre-exercise massage and a 5 minute post-workout massage. After
their third session I had them answer three questions in regards to their performance and
acupressure treatment:
1) How did you feel after your 3 acupressure sessions?
2) What changes did you notice during and after your workout?
3) Could you see yourself using this self-treatment in the future?

14. The pre-workout acupressure session is intended to spread energy through the
selected channels surrounding the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. The following six
pictures and descriptions were the points used prior to the work-out:
These points strengthen and increase the flexibility of the medial arch resulting in
improved shock absorption. These three points also help with prevention of muscle
cramps and helping plantar fasciitis and turf toe.

15. These points encourage healthy dorsiflexion and plantar flexion which is essential for
running athletes. These two points are especially useful for dancers, gymnasts, and
swimmers.
These points support the ankle and prevent it from rolling outwards. It engages the
muscle attendance as it prevents ankle sprains and dislocations. These points are critical
for sports that require quick pivots such as basketball, football, tennis, hockey, etc.
A five minute acupressure session was implemented after each workout to remove
any inflammation and swelling that was experienced over the course of the workout. The
main intent was to relieve tension in the muscles, promote circulation, and remove any
build up a metabolic waste. The following three points were used after every workout:

16. Improved circulation to these areas helps accelerate recovery. In addition to
regular stretching and strengthening routines, these points will keep the ankle joint strong
and injury free as it will help remove any swelling or inflammation that were developed
over strenuous exercise. These post-exercise techniques will relieve tension in muscles
but it is necessary to be relaxed in a comfortable manner as this requires no excessive
effort. Incorporating these into a regular cool down and stretching routine will reduce
post-workout fatigue and speed recovery.
In regards to my survey, I received some responses that made me very
enthusiastic about my research. Immediately following their last acupressure massage, I
had them take their 3 question survey to collect the raw data needed for proving that
acupressure can definitively enhance anyone’s (athlete or not) mobility. I asked for all
my subjects to give me blunt opinions about what this treatment did for them. It was
important for me to not waste their time if this didn’t work because I look to apply this
treatment forward to future individuals. The first 3 subjects were athletes and the other 3
were not.

17. Subject #1
- Felt as though I can move better after my workout and that I could do more. I
usually have slight ankle pain after my workouts but my acupressure session
made my ankles feel “numb” but no pain.
- I noticed more “bounce” to my workouts and felt more explosive during my lower
body lifts
- I would without question use my acupressure performance because its free, and
all Derek did was use his fingers
Subject #2
- My acupressure session made me feel relaxed and not as “achy” after my
workout. Felt real good about my progression this week and felt the trigger points
helped that
- Soothed, relaxed, usually after my workouts I just want to sit on the couch the rest
of the day. I actually played basketball later on in the day
- It would take me some research to learn how Derek does it but yes ill probably
start looking acupressure up this weekend
Subject #3
- Didn’t have sore feet after my runs
- Even though I only did upper body on those days, when I ran I noticed a
significant change in the way my feet hit the ground, it felt like my shoes were
lighter
- Yes but I’d want to use the tools to see how much more effective those would be
(Non-athletes)
Subject #4
- The points were tinder for me as first but over the course of the week they felt
more soothing. It took some getting used to, though

18. - When I ran on the treadmill I was able to pick my knees up more and by Friday I
went at my fastest speed ever
- I'm thankful for what Derek exposed me to. I will definitely recommend this to
my mother who has ankle pain often
Subject #5
- My foot pain was gone! I've been searching over the Internet for how to alleviate
these aches and this fixed it
- I was able to move better!
- As long as it keeps my ankle pain gone, I'm going to continue this treatment
Subject #6
- My ankles were more loose and flexible, that was the most significant difference
- I didn't really notice a difference. I don't work out in the way that you would feel
a difference with this but my ankles did definitely feel more loose
- I wouldn't but am definitely going to refer this treatment to my cousin who is a
college swimmer
All my participants gave me their honest answers about how their bodies reacted
to this treatment so it was encouraging to see all of these positive results. It took patience
and consistency for everyone involved but it proved well worth it for the positive benefits
everyone experienced. Generally speaking, the athletes reported better performance with
increased mobility within the lower body and a shorter recovery time between workouts.
Even my non-athlete participants reported better bounce and explosiveness when
stepping in transverse planes. All agreed to being more relaxed after their sessions but
had a lot more energy than if they wouldn't have received this treatment. Because all six
reported positive results, this rules out any placebo effect from possibly overruling the
benefits of acupressure.
As demonstrated, acupressure require spiritual beliefs, years of training, or magic.
However, an individual must have patience and put forth the effort in learning the
placement of acupoints. With consistent repetition and practice, points will be found
easily, as the individual will be on their way to maximizing their athletic potential and
mobility.

19. III. Conclusion
In this time of great imbalance, we are facing epidemic rates of obesity and
chronic disease more than ever before. Not to mention the fast-paced society struggles
that cause daily stress, depression, and anxiety. This leaves consumers concerned for
their health. There has never been a greater need for the holistic approach, as the
pharmaceutical company is making blatant medical errors on the daily. However,
whether someone is living with a drug dependence issue, mental issue, or even both, dual
diagnosis treatment is the best option. This type of care will address both the mental
issue and drug addiction in the most holistic way possible while still taking
pharmaceutical drugs to a minimum. With the growing popularity of the wellness
approach, more medical doctors are beginning to practice alternative medicine as holistic
health schools are in high demand.
A patient may not be ready to fully commit to holistic treatments, which is ok.
Some are with their medical doctors for so long that they begin to call them their “family
doctor”. But it’s important to gradually and consistently work all aspects of holistic
health into your lifestyle: taking care of mental health, eating nutritious, staying active,
and doing acupressure, are all ways to make the global body happier and healthier.
