The Yenisei River begins in Kyzyl, Russia and flows north for 3,487 km before emptying into the Kara Sea. It is one of Russia's most famous rivers and flows through several major cities, including Krasnoyarsk. With over 184,000 lakes in its basin, the largest being Lake Khantai, the Yenisei River and its watershed are important for hydroelectric power and shipping.
