The water cycle begins with evaporation as the sun heats water, turning it into water vapor that rises up into the sky. The water vapor then condenses into clouds that become heavy with moisture. When the clouds are heavy enough, precipitation falls as rain or snow, completing the cycle which then repeats as the water returns to bodies of water or land to be heated by the sun again.
