This document discusses the use of do and does in forming questions in English. It explains that do and does are used as auxiliary verbs at the beginning of questions to indicate they are questions. Do is used for first person plural subjects (I, you, we, they) while does is used for third person singular subjects (he, she, it). Some examples are provided of affirmative sentences being made into questions by adding do or does to the beginning based on the subject. Short answers to questions using do/does with affirmative and negative forms are also demonstrated.

2. To make a question in English we normally use Do or
Does. It has no translation in Spanish though it is
essential to show we are making a question. It is
normally put at the beginning of the question.
(Para realizar preguntas en el idioma inglés en
tiempo presente simple, normalmente utilizamos los
verbos auxiliaries Do-Does).
Example:
Affirmative sentence: You speak Spanish. --
oración afirmativa en tiempo presente simple.
Question: Do you speak Spanish? -- De esta
manera la hacemos pregunta, colocando el verbo
auxiliar al inicio de la pregunta.
Pero te preguntarás ¿Por qué el verbo auxiliary Do y
no Does? La respuesta la encontrarás en la siguiente
diapositiva

3. You will see that we add DO at the beginning of the
affirmative sentence to make it a question. We use Do
when the subject is I, you, we or they.
Utilizaremos el verbo auxiliar DO para los pronombres
I, YOU, WE, THEY Y DOES para los pronombres HE,
SHE, IT (terceras personas del singular).

4. Affirmative: He speaks Spanish. - oración
afirmativa con el pronombre He (tercera
persona del singular por ello el verbo lleva la s
al final). De esta manera lo convertimos en
pregunta:
Question: Does he speak Spanish? (como
puedes notar al momento de realizar la
pregunta el verbo principal (speak) se le quita
la “s” ya que nuestro auxiliar Does ya nos indica
que es tercera persona de quien hablamos… y
por este motivo ya no necesitamos la “s” al final
del verbo.

5. Notice that the letter S at the
end of the verb in the
affirmative sentence (because
it is in third person).
Example: he plays with dolls.
But be carefully when you use
Does in questions or answers,
because in this case you don’t
have to use S.
