2. The umbrella academy is a sci-fi, superhero tv series. In the opening title sequence, there is use of lots of lots of mise en scene props
such as umbrellas and violins which have huge significance in the series. The non diegetic sound that is used in the title sequence is a
violin which also foreshadows events that happen in the series.
The editing such as special effects and serif font are effective as this makes the series have its own uniqueness and make it stand out
from other opening title sequences. The special effects that have been use include the violin break into lots of pieces which could also
foreshadow an event in the series. There is also a close up shot of a dice breaking into lots of pieces as well as the umbrella. The serif font
that has been used is edited so the writing looks as though it is melting, this is a unique effect that makes the title recognisable for the
audience.
The colour used in this title sequence is mainly black and white but also features other colours such as gold and yellow. This is good
because the colour pallet used is kept small but effective because too many colours used can become too much.
The actors and actresses names as well as the directors and producers to tell the audience who to expect in the series. Each actor and
actress are placed with a prop which suggests to the audience that these props will be important to the charcters that they are playing.

3. In the opening sequence of the umbrella academy, we see lots of close ups and over the shoulder shots of a man taking a women’s child.
The mise en scene costumes of the man wearing a suit and the women in her cardigan holding the baby shows his dominance and
authority compared to the women’s innocence. This is why the man was able to take the baby away from the mother. The expression on
the women’s face also shows her fear whereas the man looksdetermined and fearless. This is a great way to show the representation
of the two characters. His clothes also suggest that this is set in the past as he is wearing old fashioned clothes, as well as an monocle.
There is also a low angle mid shot of the man which further represents him as powerfuland careless.
The non diegetic sound is also upbeat which contrasts what is happening in the scenes. This represents the man as careless about what
he is doing.
At the end of the opening sequence,we meet the seven children that he stole and their names. This clarifies the fact that the previous
scenes was in the past and now it is present day. All of the characters are in different mise en scene locations and costumes, suggesting
that they are no longer together. This implies that these characters are all living their separate lives and this introduces their current
lives to the audience.
The font used in these scenes, introducing the characters are simple, capitalised, sans serif font. There is no fancy font being used which
shows that this is just a simple introduction of these characters as there is much more to learn. There is also mainly lowkey lighting
throughout this sequence and this creates suspenseand an aura of mystery around this man. The audience are interested to know what
the man is doing with these children.
