 In 1999 start of the Swedish Anaesthesia Registry
(SAR) – Prof Wiklund
 Collected some 350 000 cases over the following years
But
 Manual input, every case took 9 minutes….
 So silently expired………

8. The Swedish Perioperative Registry
• Restarted in 2011
• initiative by the Swedish Association for
Anaesthesia and Intensive Care –
profession run!
• Funded by a Government Grant and
membership fees – budget ~ 3 miljon SEK
• In cooperation with Nurse Associations,
Surgical Specialities and one of the 6
National Registry Centers

9. Goals
• To collect data from the digital theatre planning/info systems
already in use without further manual registration
• To improve the quality of the Swedish perioperative care by the
collected data (initially 52 variables) to allow National
comparisons of quality and process parameters
• To produce on-line results within 24 hrs plus annual reports
and open national comparisons – benchmarking
