1. Selfish Giant is a cultural drama. Inspired by
the Oscar Wilde story of the same name.
Genre
The main cast where and all
British cast. The cast are fairly
unknown therefor deterring
people from prejudging that actor
in a role.
Casting
£1.4million
The budget was funded mainly
by the BFI making it a very
British film. The film made a
profit, considering it was on a
low budget and was only shown
on 35 screens this is surprising
as such films as the lone ranger
which had a massive budget and
where backed by the super
power of Hollywood made a loss.
Budget
Location Willington, Derbyshire, England, UK
(PowerStation)
Bradford, West Yorkshire, England,
UK (City)
These areas are both close to one
another being less than 2 hours
apart from one another. As these are
both relatively close locations it
leads one to believe that there was
not a he budget se for the location.
Or maybe it could be that they didn’t
require a large amount to be spent
on the budget.

Clio Barnard wrote
‘TheSelfish Giant’. She based
Arbor and Swifty off of two
children she met while
filming The Arbor (2010) who
worked as scrappers.
Clio Barnard also directed the
film. In 2013 she was hailed as a
significant new voice in British
cinema for her film The Selfish
Giant, which premiered in the
Director's Fortnight section of the
Cannes film festival. She also
directed the Arbor another highly
successful British film
documentary.
Tracy O’Riordan
She was also the producer of a
documentary called ‘The Arbor’
in 2012 this is based around the
same area and has gotten high
praise. This also had Clio
Barnard directing it as well.
Harry Escott was the composer of the
music for The Selfish Giant. He has also
composed for such films as: ‘The Arbor’
(I documentary by Tracy O’Riordan
and Clio Bernard) and ‘Welcome to the
Punch’, both highly successful British
films.
The Selfish Giant has not got any
technological convergence as it was an
independent British film. Films such as
‘The Lego Movie’ have a large amount of
technological convergence which includes
a website, games (computer and video),
adverts etc.
