The Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) is a quality improvement initiative to reduce surgical complications. Corona Regional Medical Center is a 240-bed community hospital that employs over 1,000 staff. The hospital uses strategies like staff education, pre-printed order forms, and stickers to alert nurses and physicians to help meet SCIP measures and reduce surgical complications like ensuring proper administration of antibiotics. A multidisciplinary SCIP team meets biweekly to monitor performance and develop additional strategies to continuously improve surgical care quality.
