An inspirational poem to promote perseverance, persistence, self-reflection, self-realization, teamwork, personal success, and success of others. We are all rising stars.
This poem reflects on the journey through life towards old age. It describes how as people age, they continually search for meaning and satisfaction but are unable to fully understand or overcome the complexities of life. Only by accepting life's integrity, honesty and pain can one find satisfaction and have the will to continue living until old age.
This document summarizes David Brooks' book "The Road to Character" which discusses developing virtues and strong character. It outlines Brooks' view that character begins with self-examination and understanding oneself, including one's flaws. While people are flawed, they are also endowed with potential. The journey to develop character involves struggles against weaknesses and sins through inner confrontation over the long term with courage, honesty and humility. No one can achieve self-mastery alone and we are ultimately saved by grace.
This document contains summaries of weekly reflections on biblical passages and principles related to living according to God's word. It discusses topics like withstanding worldly allurements, overcoming discouragement, and the importance of faith. It also addresses handling disappointment, loving God, loving others, loving enemies, and the power of one's words. The document encourages seeking God through Christ and living a spiritually mature life. It offers advice on types of men and concludes by offering prayers to those who need support.
While the document asks where the reader was during 9/11, both physically and spiritually, it emphasizes that regardless of circumstances, true believers will praise God for His mercy and love. It encourages declaring that God alone rules the universe and is just in His dealings. The document stresses that through all times, both good and bad, we should see God's love and desire for us to do good. God gives both the strength to overcome and ability to endure difficult times.
In the Gospel of John, we are told that Andrew met Jesus, with that burning zeal went and found his brother Simon Peter and brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John, but you shall be called Cephas". What did Jesus saw in Peter? What does Jesus sees in you today? How does one keep the flame alive? In what ways do I share or give testimony of the love of Jesus to others? As leaders, we are to seek Him, receive Him, know Him, love Him, serve Him and be like Him, you know….. it’s all about Jesus.
2 Corinthians 12:7-10 The Sufficiency of GraceMarvin McKenzie
This document summarizes key points from 2 Corinthians. It discusses how God may not answer prayers in the way or timing expected, but His grace is sufficient. It also notes that God's power is perfected when it passes through Christians to help others, and that human failure provides the foundation for spiritual success, as God waits to resurrect people when they reach the bottom.
A man lost in darkness hears a whisper calling out the name "Jesus Christ, Lord of all" as his demons cower in fear. He asks who this Jesus is that overcomes the darkest powers. Jesus responds that he is the one who died for the man's sake and can give him eternal life, salvation, mercy, grace, love, hope and peace. Jesus declares himself as Christ, the Truth, the Life and the Way.

This document discusses God's love and its importance in our lives. It begins by stating that we are God's beloved. It then asks fundamental questions about the meaning of life and what comes after death. The main points are: God created the world and humanity; there is disorder in the world due to issues like war, poverty, and injustice; and Jesus Christ is the answer who can fill us with God's eternal love. It encourages accepting Jesus as our savior and letting God's love guide us. The document promotes praying the rosary as a way to connect with Mary and emphasizes that God loves us unconditionally.
The document discusses the importance of "remaining" or staying connected to Christ. It provides several Bible passages that emphasize this, such as John 15:4-5 which states that people cannot bear fruit or accomplish anything unless they remain connected to Christ like branches to a vine. The document urges readers to remain connected through practices like engaging with God's word, prayer, fellowship, and faithful service. It warns that failing to remain connected will result in spiritual dryness, lack of fruit, and destruction.
This document discusses the importance of spending time with God in prayer, especially when feeling hurt, worn out, tired, worried, or anxious. It references several Bible passages where Jesus withdrew to solitary places to pray, even when in anguish. The document encourages readers to approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that they may receive mercy and find grace to help them in their time of need. The overall message is about finding freedom through intentionally connecting with God in prayer.
This document discusses the concept of "hurry sickness", which is defined as a constant struggle to accomplish more in less time against perceived opposition from others. It notes that while being busy is an outward condition, being hurried is an inner condition that prevents being fully present with God, oneself, and others. Some signs of hurry sickness include speeding up, sighing frequently, encouraging others to accelerate, feeling annoyed by waits, having clutter, and experiencing "sunset fatigue". The document warns that hurry can decrease compassion and increase anxiety, harm relationships, and lead to a superficial existence. It recommends slowing down, practicing solitude, and being still to know God.
The document discusses how regret over past actions can lead to feelings of sadness, shame, and guilt. It notes that Paul felt regret and guilt over his past persecution of Christians. However, Paul was able to break the cycle of regret through accepting God's grace. The document encourages readers to also break free from regret by expressing gratitude for what they have learned and praying for opportunities to make positive changes going forward.
The document provides a 10 step recovery process for people who have experienced being burnt in a relationship. The steps include: 1) Not taking responsibility for other people's actions, 2) Not embarrassing or humiliating yourself, 3) Understanding grief is a process not a destination, 4) Your experience is not unique, 5) Healing starts from within by surrendering to God, 6) The power of forgiveness, 7) Embracing God's reconstruction, 8) Being guided by wisdom from experience, 9) Learning to trust again, and 10) Smiling and celebrating recovery. The document finds comfort in scripture and aims to help those dealing with loss, broken relationships, unfulfilled promises and more.
This document discusses the origins and nature of sin from biblical passages. It describes how sin originated in pride and a desire to be like God in Lucifer and Adam and Eve. Sin exists both individually through acts, thoughts, and omissions against God's law, as well as collectively through issues in society. As Christians, we can help mitigate the effects of collective sin by living righteously according to Jesus' example and having a positive influence on others. The only solution to sin is accepting Christ as our savior.
This document outlines the objectives and content of a retreat on coming to understand and live out God's plan. The objectives are to become aware of God's plan, accept what has happened with regards to that plan, and act to live it out. The retreat will cover how God created humans with intellect and free will to know, love and serve him, how sin disrupted this plan, and how Jesus Christ offers salvation to restore our relationship with God. Attendees are encouraged to reflect on God's power and willingness to speak to them during a time of stillness.
1. While physical separation through death is difficult, there is no spiritual separation between loved ones who were united through love.
2. Love transcends death and the spirit cannot be destroyed.
3. When experiencing trials through sorrow, one can find comfort knowing their loved one remains as close as possible in spirit and will guide and protect them.
This document contains announcements for an upcoming Sabbath at Word of Hope including a Bible memorization group meeting on February 5th, a homeless outreach on February 6th, a Spanish movie night on February 5th, a hospital outreach on February 13th, a potluck on February 13th, signups for marriage classes, a retreat in April, and a thought for the week about acknowledging one's sins and relying on Christ for forgiveness and cleansing. Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.
1. The Rising Star
By Brent Alexander Newton
Alone in the dark, you shine so bright. Like a beacon of hope, your strength cannot be
denied.
A thousand times you have been struck down. A thousand times more you got back up.
With each new setback, you get stronger. You guide the lost and fight evil wherever you
find it.
Like the warrior, you are both teacher and student. Both pure in heart and clear in mind,
you break through every barrier that stands before you.
You are not the Sun, because the world does not revolve around you. Truly selfless and
kind, you seek peace wherever you go.
Many have tried to cover your light, but no one can eclipse you. They can destroy your
body, but they can never kill your spirit.
You are the one to follow. You are the Rising Star.
