THE MAMMOTH
INTRODUCTION
The mammoth was from the same family of the elephants
(they’re very similar). This species, appeared in Africa, in
the Sahara desert, 4,8 millions years ago. They
disappeared about 3.600 years ago. Scientists argue why
they became extinct, but they think that there were many
factors.
DESCRIPTION
The mammoth was bigger than the normal elephant of
today.
There were many types of mammoths. One of them was
called the Imperial mammoth, because measured five feet
shoulder.
The normal mammoth weighed between six and eight tons,
but sometimes, some mammoths arrived to the twelve
tons.
Most of them measured like the asian elephant.
THE EXTINTION
The scientists think that they been extinct in the last ice
age, but i’ts not sure.
After the ice age, a population of the San Paul island
sourvive until around 6000 BC, and the mammoths dwarfs
don’t benn extinct until around 2000 BC.
This is a photo of a baby mammoth. It was found a few days ago
(octover 2010) . It was frozen in a bloc of ice and it was in perfectly
conditions.
