Converting religious heritage into public libraries for the benefit of citizensCathal McCauley
The document discusses converting unused religious buildings into public libraries in Quebec City. It provides examples of three churches that were successfully converted - Claire-Martin Library (circa 1870), Maison de la littérature (Westley Temple built in 1848), and Monique-Corriveau Library (Saint-Denys-du-Plateau Church built in 1964). The conversions maintained important architectural features, increased space for collections and visitors, and led to significant increases in library use, with some locations seeing visitation increase over 100%. Converting religious buildings allows the preservation of heritage and community spaces in strategic locations, while giving new purpose to structures facing declining religious use.

JAC Centre for Academic Excellence - a Library reimaginedCathal McCauley
John Abbott College was founded in 1970 and has over 6500 students enrolled in career and pre-university programs and 2100 in continuing education. The renovated and expanded library houses 60,000 volumes, 10,000 media items, and offers 888 seats for students. In addition to traditional services, the library also houses an English writing center, French language lab, student tutoring services, testing for students with special needs, and a computer teaching lab.
This document discusses sustainable library design trends in Nordic countries. It covers environmental sustainability through green library practices, social sustainability and inclusive design, and economically sustainable design. Several Nordic library examples are provided that showcase these sustainability practices, including the new Oodi Public Library in Helsinki, Finland, which uses sustainable materials and prioritizes inclusivity and public participation. The Carolina Rediviva University Library in Uppsala, Sweden re-used an existing heritage building. The Student House library at Linköping University in Sweden received gold certification for its environmentally friendly design. The recently opened Deichman Bjørvika Public Library in Oslo, Norway also emphasizes sustainability.
The Hive is a joint library between the University of Worcester and Worcestershire County Council that opened in 2012. It was designed to inspire and connect students, staff, and the local community through learning, integration, and inclusivity. Since opening, The Hive has had over 4.5 million visits and positively impacted university satisfaction scores. Moving forward, its 5-year strategic plan focuses on maintaining partnerships, evaluating impact, prioritizing services, and potential expansion to further establish The Hive as an iconic community hub.
This document summarizes Constance Malpas' presentation on collective collections and right-scaling cooperative stewardship. It discusses how a significant share of institutional collections are duplicated across libraries, both within regions and between regions. There is a growing trend toward more coordinated collection management at various scales, from individual institutions to regional groups to global. The optimal scale for shared print management involves taking a system-wide view of collections and balancing local needs with broader preservation. Key factors for successful shared print programs include robust trust networks between participating libraries and scalable infrastructure to reduce costs.
Cooperative advantages: Lessons in scale and sustainability from ReCAPCathal McCauley
This document discusses re-envisioning library depositories as logistics and service hubs. It describes how the Research Collections and Preservation Consortium (ReCAP) functions as a large-scale shared collection and delivery infrastructure. ReCAP has expanded its physical capacity over time and is exploring automation and high density storage options to further reduce costs and improve operations. As a logistics center, ReCAP is able to provide rapid delivery and access to shared materials across its partner libraries at an affordable cost through economies of scale. The document advocates for ReCAP to develop additional digital capabilities and services above, alongside, within and below its logistics functions to better support research and learning.
Building new library spaces. The Munich University Library’s PhilologicumCathal McCauley
The document discusses plans to build new library spaces at the Munich University Library called the Philologicum. It provides details about the university and current library facilities. An international competition was held in 2013 to design the Philologicum, and construction by the winning architects began in 2016. The new building will open in 2018 and house over 400,000 volumes, with various study areas, equipment, and features. The project team is addressing technical and logistical aspects of the move, such as selecting volumes and applying RFID tags.

How to Fix the Import Error in the Odoo 17Celine George
An import error occurs when a program fails to import a module or library, disrupting its execution. In languages like Python, this issue arises when the specified module cannot be found or accessed, hindering the program's functionality. Resolving import errors is crucial for maintaining smooth software operation and uninterrupted development processes.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

How to Build a Module in Odoo 17 Using the Scaffold MethodCeline George
Odoo provides an option for creating a module by using a single line command. By using this command the user can make a whole structure of a module. It is very easy for a beginner to make a module. There is no need to make each file manually. This slide will show how to create a module using the scaffold method.
