Louise Schweikert is the creative director behind the Saturday morning conference at Global Gathering. She comes up with themes 18 months in advance and oversees all aspects of the live on-stage conference programming. While it is challenging work that requires keeping thousands entertained for hours, she enjoys the satisfaction when everything comes together successfully. Schweikert and her team have already begun planning for the 2017 Global Gathering in Hawaii, which she says will be one of the best events yet.

“The Love Sandal was an idea I had this summer when I was enrolled in the Girls Learning Code Inventors Camp in downtown Toronto. I noticed my Mom had ugly tan lines on the top of her foot and thought it would be great if we could somehow make the tan line look cool and then I thought, what if the tan line was a heart, and the Love Sandal was born.
The Love Sandal is not just about a 10 year old girl starting a shoe company. It is a testament to the fact that ANYONE, no matter their age, race or gender can do ANYTHING! The Love Sandal is about chasing your dreams and following your heart!”

This document discusses issues with modern web development and provides suggestions for improvement. It notes that web pages have become bloated with dependencies, frameworks hinder interoperability, and desktop and mobile solutions are disappointing. Conferences provide conflicting messages about tools and standards. JavaScript intolerance causes problems, and browsers spend resources fixing developers' code. The document advocates focusing on usability over new features, embracing limitations, using existing browser capabilities, and fixing baseline issues rather than trying to control everything. It suggests the next users will not demand native-like experiences and that growth is happening outside tech hubs with different rules. The document encourages contributing to the web in many ways and embracing imperfections.

The moment it all comes together, the moment it’s lights, cameras, action – that’s when the real excitement kicks in for cievents Creative Director, and
all round creative genius, Louise Schweikert.
There are so many amazing people who work to make Global Gathering a success, and one such person is Louise – who’s work you’d know from – oh
I don’t know? – the last 13 Global Gatherings! Louise is the creative force behind Global Gathering’s Saturday morning conference. Including
everything that happens live on stage; from the conference opening segment, scripting, stage direction and rehearsal, to all screen content including
sponsor videos, destination reveal to name a few.
She cites working with high end celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Will.I.Am as some of the undeniable perks of the jobs but says it’s the feeling of
satisfaction when it all comes together that makes it worth it.
“Last year Skroo said it was the best opening he’d seen at a Global gathering, so you know, I could pretty much retire after that! It was so great to hear
because we really work so hard on that opening. I’m very lucky that because cievents is part of FCTG I understand the brand so am really given full
liberty to get creative and so it’s that much easier to make great things happen.”

Louise and her creative team (including Kerry-Anne Walker, Natalie Simons and Jen Pole) come up with a theme 18-months out from the event to
keep things fresh and exciting for delegates.
So what makes this role so challenging? Well imagine having to keep 3,000+ Flighties with hangovers entertained for 5 hours!
“It’s a tough gig, we work really hard on managing the highs and lows – you know, the way the conference ows,
it’s about how to get people to laugh and how to keep them engaged and creating a good mix of educational
conference content as well as having fun,” she says.
With a high pressure role like this, things are bound to go wrong sometimes, while Louise says the team always manages the situation there have
de nitely been some close call moments!
“Oh boy – where do I start? In events work there is always something happening. We’ve had talent breaking contracts like Sean Penn who pulled out
three weeks before the show and there was a mad scramble to get someone else in place. Then there was the task of getting Groove Armada
onstage, it was cue time and they weren’t ready… I saw them in a lift, literally grabbed them and dragged them on to stage and said ‘RUN’, I buzzed
radio comms ‘GO’ and suddenly they had been thrown on stage in a matter of seconds – they were literally on stage like ‘okay, right – lets go then!’
With Singapore done and dusted, yet another incredibly successful Global is complete, but Louise and the team already started working on Hawaii
months ago and says it’s going to be one of the best yet!
“Working with the likes of Dee Kelly, KAW, Jen Pole and Julie Pilcher means Flighties should have no doubt that Global 2017 will be incredible, we’ve
worked as a team together for years – we know what works and what doesn’t and we work amazingly well together, there are so many people behind
the scenes making Global the event that it is and it only ever gets bigger and better.”
With that, Louise re ects on what it’s like to work on the giant that is Global Gathering, and says it’s forever been, and is, a privilege.
“It’s not a rite of passage to work on the Global event, it is a privilege – if you’re ever given the opportunity you
grab it with gusto and you’ve got to attack it with passion and love. It’s not the glitz and glamour, it’s still about a
lot of hard work and it comes down to a love of the brand and a love of the philosophies of the company.”
Her advice to Flighties gunning for Global is that it’s worth working down to the bone to get there because you won’t know what hits you when you
get there.
“It never ceases to amazing me the impact Global Gathering has – the feeling of unity – the lights and the music, its inexplicable to describe the
emotion and feeling. Then add some alcohol in there and it really is a recipe for success. Without a doubt it should be the top of everyone’s list to
make it to Global.”
Thanks Louise, and thank you for all you do – we can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in Hawaii 2017!
