We're Agile, we don't do documentation - Birgitta Boeckeler - Codemotion Amst...Codemotion
In Agile, we value “working software over comprehensive documentation” - there is value in documentation, but we value working software more. This helps us get things done and avoid waste. However, extremes are very common: teams who avoid documentation altogether (“our code is self-documenting”), or teams who create way too much documentation. This talk will cover how to leverage documentation to improve team documentation, align everybody to a common vision, as well as underutilised forms of documentation that go beyond drawing the current system state.

How software services are being transformed in the Web2.0 world. My presentation on the subject at Computer Society of India National Symposium on Software 2.0 in Delhi
InSTEDD’s Mesh4x (http://code.google.com/p/mesh4x) allows for data synchronization among different data sources regardless of technology platform or network connectivity. Users can make their data available to all users in their distributed project team or across different jurisdictions. We describe the utility and architecture of Mesh4x to share data over the Internet cloud where users determine which subset of their data are exchanged. This technology raises the potential to share data (e.g., during outbreak investigation, disaster recovery or humanitarian relief efforts) where multiple people are then allowed access to see each other’s data, update the information as the event unfolds, and securely exchange data with one another.
REAL-TIME INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEM FOR BIG DATAijp2p
The objective of the proposed system is to integrate the high volume of data along with the important
considerations like monitoring a wide array of heterogeneous security. When a real time cyber attack
occurred, the Intrusion Detection System automatically store the log in distributed environment and
monitor the log with existing intrusion dictionary. At the same time the system will check and categorize the
severity of the log to high, medium, and low respectively. After the categorization, the system will
automatically take necessary action against the user-unit with respect to the severity of the log. The
advantage of the system is that it utilize anomaly detection, evaluates data and issue alert message or
reports based on abnormal behaviour.
In this deck from the DDN booth at SC18, Terrell Russell from the iRODS Consortium presents: Managing Data from the Edge to HPC.
"The Integrated Rule-Oriented Data System (iRODS) is open source data management software used by research organizations and government agencies worldwide. iRODS is released as a production-level distribution aimed at deployment in mission critical environments. It virtualizes data storage resources, so users can take control of their data, regardless of where and on what device the data is stored. The development infrastructure supports exhaustive testing on supported platforms. The plugin architecture supports microservices, storage systems, authentication, networking, databases, rule engines, and an extensible API. iRODS has been deployed in thousands of locations worldwide, across industries as diverse as oil and gas, life sciences, physical sciences, archives and records management, and media and entertainment."

Zenoh is rapidly growing Eclipse project that unifies data in motion, data at rest and computations. It elegantly blends traditional pub/sub with geo distributed storage, queries and computations, while retaining a level of time and space efficiency that is well beyond any of the mainstream stacks. This presentation will provide an introduction to Eclipse Zenoh along with a crisp explanation of the challenges that motivated the creation of this project. We will go through a series of real-world use cases that demonstrate the advantages brought by Zenoh in enabling and optimising typical edge scenarios and in simplifying the development of any scale distributed applications.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
