There is a gulf between India and Sri Lanka, but it is filled with a large chain of underwater rocks lined up like a submerged bridge. This chain of rocks has been mentioned in Indian mythology as a bridge built by the god Rama to connect India and Sri Lanka. Satellite images show close-up views of the extensive rock formation spanning the gulf between the two landmasses.
