The story follows a caterpillar that hatches from an egg on a leaf. Each day of the week, the caterpillar eats a different fruit but remains hungry until Saturday, when it eats through various foods. That night, the caterpillar has a stomach ache. On Sunday, it eats a green leaf and feels better. The caterpillar then spins a cocoon and emerges two weeks later as a beautiful butterfly.

3. One Sunday morning the warm sun came up
and -pop ! -out of the egg came a tiny and
very hungry caterpillar.

4. He started to look for
some food.

5. On Monday he ate through 1
apple, but........
He was still
hungry.

6. On Tuesday he ate through 2
pears, but……
He was still hungry.

7. On Wednesday he ate through 3
plums, but ...
He was still
hungry

8. On Thursday he ate through 4
strawberries, but....
He was still hungry.

9. On Friday he ate through 5
oranges, but.
He was still hungry.

10. On Saturday he ate through 1piece of
chocolate cake, 1 ice-cream cone, 1
pickle, 1 slice of Swiss cheese, 1 slice
of salami..

11. . . . 1 lollipop, 1 piece of cherry pie, 1
sausage , 1 cupcake, and 1 slice of
watermelon.

12. That night he had a stomach
ache.

13. On Sunday, he ate through 1 green leaf
and felt much better.

14. Now he wasn't hungry any more -
and he wasn't a little
caterpillar any more. He was a
big, fat caterpillar.

15. He wrapped himself in a
cocoon
He stayed inside for 2 weeks.

He was a beautiful
butterfly 
