The five steps of the writing process are: 1) prewriting where the writer decides on a topic and brainstorms ideas; 2) drafting where the writer puts ideas into their own words by writing sentences and paragraphs; 3) revising where the writer improves their work by rearranging words and sentences; 4) proofreading where the writer checks for correct spelling, capitalization and punctuation and has others review their work; and 5) publishing where the writer neatly copies and shares the final product.
