UVprotection
UV rays are more harmful than you think.
UVA rays especially cause damage to the
elastic fibres and collagen of our skin causing
it to sag and drop as well as produce
premature wrinkles, fine lines and
pigmentation. The need for higher protection
against the UVA, like the new Mentholatum
Skin Aqua UV Watery Essence SPF50+ PA+++
a n d t h e Skin Aqua UV Water Gel
SPF50+ PA+++, can help
prevent premature ageing.
Both UV products are
formulated with the new
Solarex-3 technology
(that contains RonaCare
Exctoin, Antileukine 6
and hyaluronic acid) to
provide you with photo
stable protection
against UV rays. They
also contain Vitamin
C which reduces
melanin formation,
lightens freckles and
dark spots as well as
evens out skin tone.
They are also
formulated with
watery light texture
that is non-sticky
and non-greasy.

AGE is just a number if you
have a youthful looking face,
neck and décolleté.
In commemoration of its
55th anniversary, Menard has
unveiled Authent mask which
comes in two pieces to
care for the
face,
neck
and
décolleté.
Just like
the
Japanese
brand’s
Authent
cream
released in
2009, the facial
mask contains extracts
of sweet cherry seeds, boat
sterculia seeds and purple
barley seeds that enable stem
cells, new epidermal and
dermal cells to regenerate.
Meanwhile, the neck and
décolleté mask targets stem
cells in the subcutaneous
tissues and contains sweet
cherry seed and bamboo
fungus extracts that strengthen
collagen networks. Sweet
cherry seed extract has the
potential to increase stem cells
in the epidermis and dermis as
well as adipose-
derived stem
cells, which
are
essential to
keep the
skin free
from lines
and
sagging.
The
ingre-
dients in
the mask
are
delivered
into the skin
through Menard’s original
permeation technology
“Carrying Capsule System”
that is also formulated in
Authent cream.
Authent mask boasts good
compatibility with the skin,
evens textures of the face, neck
and décolleté, replenishes
moisture and enhances
elasticity of the skin to achieve
a firmer, softer and smoother
complexion.
Sealed with a feminine
fragrance of high quality rose,
orange flower and violet
essential oils as well as
ambrette seed oil, Menard
claims up to 160% penetration
of ingredients within 15
minutes of wearing Authent
mask.
Priced at RM250, the mask
gives a glimpse of the
revolutionary Authent cream
which costs RM4,400 per 50g.
Menard also re-introduced
the Stream One Touch
Lipstick, originally launched in
Malaysia in 1998. The selling
point is in its unconventional
worldwide patented design
where the lipstick can be
opened and applied with only
one hand.
Priced at RM79 each, the
lipstick is formulated with
vitamin E and comes in 14
shades, out of which three
unique shades would turn
darker upon application. This
is due to a special component
in Stream One Touch 100, 200
and 300 lipsticks that alters
colour when it comes in
contact with moisture.

G
REETED with a warm cup
of tea, I roamed around
while director Chefuu Lee
performed finishing
touches on a client. Indeed, this
architectural hub is deliberated for
the consumption of the senses.
Photographs, no matter how high
their resolution, don't seem to do
justice to the contemporary
charisma these white-washed brick
walls, black metal frames and
concrete flooring emit. Bathed in
plenty of sunlight permeating
through the glass walls, the raw
scent of this two-month old salon
put my pre-makeover nerves at
ease while folk tunes crooned in the
background.
The industrial spirit of this salon
is juxtaposed by the friendly and
down-to-earth demeanour of Lee
and his team. The Klang native,
who co-founded The Editor Salon
in Setia Alam just a year ago, spent
six out of eight years of his career
training and building his portfolio
in Singapore.
"I started off as a salon assistant,
at 19. I worked as a technician for
three years before becoming a
stylist, and eventually styling casts
of local TV dramas and
entertainment shows as well as
models for magazines such as FHM,
Cleo and Female on a regular basis
for four years," recalled the 26-
year-old.
AN HONEST
POLICY
Behind those half rim
round glasses and bowler
hat, Lee was a great
listener, an attribute
lacking in hairstylists
these days. The Willy
Wonka-lookalike took my
fine, sparse hair and scalp
concerns to heart but
thankfully, without
compromising the
signature edginess
his establishment is
known for.
To create a
voluminous
illusion, Lee shaved
the lower back of
my neck so the
remaining short
strands are able to
“uplift” my new
sharply defined bob
cut. The outer
layers of my hair
were dressed in an
almost-black soot
brown hue for a healthy impression
then spruced with ash brown
highlights that peek from
underneath to add depth and
texture to my locks. No prizes for
guessing my favourite bit!
Lee made sure to brief me
throughout the three-hour process,
imparting generous tips along the
way on how to style my hair at
home to maintaining it in the long
Menard Stream One Touch
Lipstick comes in 14 shades.
run. His soft sell modus operandi
works like a charm but to Lee,
it isn't a conscious business
strategy.
"Our honest goal is to deliver
the best to our clients, not figure
out the million ways to milk profit
out of a single session. We are
more concerned about the skills we
are offering rather than the
products that we could be selling,"
said Lee.
Recent customer Camilla Soon
testified to the sentiment. "My
initial plan was to dye my hair
silver grey but I was advised
against it. So Chefuu and I
discussed until we had a look that's
both workable and likeable. I
appreciate hairstylists who listen,
voice out and justify their thoughts.
I've had encounters with those
who said no just because they
didn't like it or they saw it as a
Thisnewkidontheblockpitchesa
transformationthat’sworththelongdrive
hassle," shared the senior public
relations executive.
SETTING THE TREND
The inviting interior of The Editor
Salon makes a good conversation
starter but more so, a well-
projected image of the team and
service that's offered. If you've
vetted through the salon's online
profiles, you'd know that clients do
get what they see – clean and cool
(sometimes colourful) hairdos,
much like the salon's ambience.
"A lot of thought has been put
into the layout of the salon so that
potential clients gain a certain
respect and expectation when they
see us. Like how you would dress
up to visit a coffee shop and not a
kopitiam. We want to spark a
culture of sharing, not just of a new
hairdo, but fashion and overall fun,"
Lee noted.
