#10 What do we mean by hyper distributed operations? Let’s take an automobile manufacturers…they may have hundreds of factories, thousands of dealers, tens of thousands of partners, and millions of vehicles on the road…it doesn’t get much more distributed then this…and they want and need to share systems and data across all of these participants in their value chain…
#11 This hyper distributed infrastructure is hosting apps and data everywhere and is resulting in a growing network of small “centers of data’. These centers of data are small computing hubs that people and processes within an organization, and more and more, outside of the organization want to tap into.
It is a computing paradigm that is focused on understanding that economic value comes from bringing together information from sources that were never connected before to produce insights, experiences, and better decisions. It is a move away from solely focusing on integration to focusing on connecting the right “Centers of Data” at the right time in the most contextually appropriate manner.
#12 And as these connections expand beyond your own environment and into your growing ecosystem it becomes increasingly complex and challenging. It is one thing to connect 15 centers of data but when that grows to 1,500 or 15,000 it becomes impossible to think that you can manage these integrations one at a time. In this environment the network must serve as the platform for digital business…helping to not only support applications everywhere but helping to understand and manage all of the relationships between these centers of data.

#14 This evolution of the network requiring a new approach to computing…
Starting with the need to support computing at the edge. Today’s environment requires that you support application development and hosting across fog, cloud and mobile.
It requires enabling an Application-centric Infrastructure with application-based policies that decouple application requirements from network configurations to reduce the impact of application changes on performance, security, availability and scale
Enabling Streaming Analytics and Aggregation…streaming analytics across data-in-motion and data-at-rest and rapid logical aggregation of data
It requires Secure Interaction – the growing ecosystem of partners requires pervasive security policies that support the new B2B and B2C interactions.
And last but not least, it requires application integration across hybrid computing environments
Cisco is uniquely positioned to help our customers address these new requirements with:
• an intelligent network and IoX that supports network distributed workload and edge computing
• new streaming analytics and data virtualization capabilities with our Connected Analytics software
• and best in class application integration with our Cisco Integration Platform that allows you to connect disparate applications across hybrid environments.
To further support these evolving requirements, we are announcing a number of new software capabilities that serve as the foundation for digital business.

Distributed application architecture with performance (network programmability and embedded app/analytics in network)
#22 And underneath this hyper distributed business environment is a a hyper distributed infrastructure…from the data center, to cloud, to the edge and mobile.
#31 Manifests as: Budget influence, budget additions, agile business operations, agile development, dev ops, continuous integration, continuous improvement
#33 Cities are taking steps to improve their infrastructure, although most of them have a ‘siloed’ approach. They invest in one problem at a time creating duplication in infrastructure and losing value of cross domain interaction.
This approach is neither scalable nor economical and does not benefit from cross-vertical sharing of data and services (For example, congestion management solution can’t leverage the video feeds from cameras installed for security solution)
No sharing of infrastructure costs and IT resources
No sharing of intelligence/information, e.g., video feeds, data from sensors, etc.
Waste and duplication of investment and effort
Difficulty in scaling infrastructure management

#36 Organizations across a range of industries are partnering with Cisco to enable digital transformation…whether that is in…
Healthcare where organizations are looking to improve the patient experience and improve outcomes
Or in retail where companies are striving to engage customers in new compelling ways and improve in store processes
Or in cities, who are looking to get smarter by enabling these new connections to deliver process efficiencies and new citizen services
Or in manufacturing, to help better connect highly distributed processes across complex, global supply chains.
Many of the organization on this journey are here this week…and in a few moments we will hear from two who will share their journey and experiences.
(Additional notes:
Mfg: Improved agility from connecting complex supply chains
Retail: New levels of customer engagement and service delivery
Healthcare: Engaging patient experience and improved outcomes
Energy: Visibility and analysis of usage across disparate systems
Cities: New process efficiencies and citizen services
