In this lesson we define the word church from the original language spoken in Jesus day. We examine the word "call" and how it pertains to the gospel message. 3. Church defined
✓ King James translation uses the word “church” 112 times
✓ This Greek word is found in the New Testament
approximately 115 times, and that’s just in this one
grammatical form.
✓ It appears also in other forms. There are three exceptions
in the King James translation where it is properly translated.
✓ They are found in Acts 19:32, 39, 41. Here the translators
used the word “assembly” instead of “church.” But, the
Greek word is exactly the same as the other 112 entries
where “church” was used.

4. Church defined
✓The Greek word “ecclesia” is correctly
defined as “the called-out (ones)”
✓The term “ecc” in Greek means “out”;
✓The term “kaleo" in Greek means “call.

• There only one hope.
• There only one Holy Spirit.
• There only one body (church)

11. Acts 16
✓ Macedonia was Roman province on the Balkan Peninsula.
Thessalonica was located in Macedonia
✓ Paul visited Macedonia because of a vision (Acts 16:9–
12). Despite opposition he labored (2 Cor 7:5; 1 Thess
2:2),
✓ Acts 16:9-12 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: a
man of Macedonia was standing there, urging him and
saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 And when
Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on
into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to
preach the gospel to them.

12. Acts 17
✦Paul planted several churches or assemblies of called
out ones in Macedonia (Acts 17:10–12).
✦Acts 17:10-12 The brothers immediately sent Paul
and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they
arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now
these Jews were more noble than those in
Thessalonica; they received the word with all
eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if
these things were so.

Greek women of high standing as well as men
