3. A rare form of the disease, adrenal cancer starts in one or both of the
adrenal glands, which are small glands situated at the top of the kidneys.
The causes of the tumor are mutations within the adrenal gland cells. The
abnormal cells deliver instructions to the cells to multiply rapidly, or not
die at the time when normal cells naturally would. A danger is that these
tumors can eventually move beyond the adrenal glands and spread to
various parts of the body.

4. With adrenal cancer impacting hormones, side effects for women include
head hair loss and excessive facial hair, as well as irregular periods. For
men, side effects include shrinking testicles and breast tissue that
becomes enlarged. General symptoms include weakness of the muscles,
weight gain, and purple or pink stretch marks appearing on the skin.

5. Adrenal cancer is most common in those with inherited conditions,
including Li-Fraumeni syndrome, Carney complex, and Beckwith-
Wiedemann syndrome. The condition can affect people of any age, but is
most common among children under the age of five and adults aged 40 to
60.
