The Paris Catacombs

The Paris Catacombs is a place where the deads bones are
placed on the wall or floor as a monument. The Catacombs
started in 1786 when the government of France decided to
get rid of the graves and place the remains in one big area.

They decided to place them underneath Paris. They would
take the remains of dead people's graves and take them to
Paris, from there they take the bones into the catacombs
and bury them. This carried on untill 1788 when all the
remains were there. Once the remains were collected all
there priests started to hang the bones on the walls and
ceiling. There are more than 6 millions people's remain in
there and remember, every person has 206 bones so that is
approximately 1236000000 bones in the catacombs. In the
catacombs there are quotes on the wall in French.
Such as, "ARRETE, C’EST ICI L’EMPIRE DE LA MORT"
which translated means, "STOP, THIS IS HERE, THE
EMPIRE OF DEATH". Ever since the catacombs have been
made it has been open to public. You can have a tour of 10
to 20 people each time. People have been paying to visit
ever scince. But In September 2009 the Catacombs were
closed due to burglary. The vandal stole bones of a body
and left. The government of France decided to close them. 2
months later they were reopened to the public in December.
