To me, Success is feeling confident and proud of your
achievements, the work you’ve done, and goals you’ve
accomplished. While also sustaining the motivation to keep driving
further into your success by maintaining your physical and mental
health, and network surrounding you. EPA helps and encourages
me to fulfill each of those aspects.

18. Success to me is beyond where I work, its about being a loving Husband and present Father to
my family.
— Travis Ouimet, CPA joined firm in 2022)
Why am I successful at EPA?
“
”
Success to me is beyond where I work, its about being a loving
husband and present father to my family. Often though, our professional
life demands our attention which can sometimes impact our time with
loved ones. Here at EPA, I am able to be successful as the firm gives
me the flexibility to define my schedule to prioritize family time when it is
necessary. Another component of my success is attributed to the team
we have. No one person carries the weight and burden of our work, we
continually work together to be the best version of ourselves which not
only translates to a positive work environment, but also great work
product. I find it to be truly a privilege to be part of the team.
20. Success is being able to achieve my personal and professional
goals. I enjoyed working at EPA even when I’m burned out
during busy season, because I always feel accomplished and
being well supported by the team. I have various opportunities to
take on different projects and to grow. During Summer and
holiday season, the firm allows us to flex Friday, also provides
generous paid time off so I can spend more time with my family.
I am happy to work in a firm with the culture aligning my
personal values of success.

It’s a great place to work because they give us the freedom to take
the path we want. The firm likes to know what motivates us, and
what path we want to take, and they give us the tools and the
support to meet those goals.

I wish I worked for Ennis Pellum when I first moved to Jacksonville in
2003, because I did not feel like a team member at the other firms I
worked for. At EPA, we are a team that works and plays together. No
matter how old you are there is always room for improvement and
working here gives me this opportunity.

A key indicator of success for me is the ability to allow your work
to speak for itself. In my time with the firm, I have seen
numerous prospective/new clients request our services based
solely on the word of our current client base. A reputation such
as the one the firm has in the community is one to take pride in
and protect with continued dedication and hard work.

I define success as the opportunity to serve others and being able
to use my skills for things I am passionate about. It is knowing I do
my best and that my best may look different each day, it is having
the people I care about by my side, and it is having fun while I am
at it. Being a part of the team at Ennis Pellum allows me to be
successful.

I feel that I am successful at EPA because they truly believe in
their employees. EPA is always supporting their employees and

During my entire adult life, when I have thought about success,
my mind has always gone to a particular passage in the Bible
(see prior page). For over 45 years, Ennis Pellum CPAs has
afforded me with the opportunity to pursue success while
remaining true to my beliefs. I am thankful for the daily
opportunity to serve clients, team members and others, while
providing the means of income to sustain a satisfying lifestyle for
my family. I am committed to the success of our clients, our
people and our community, and while we strive to enable others
to pursue their own definition of success, I hope others see our
road as a good road and dare to follow.

Success is realizing your full potential, whatever the pursuit. As a
classical musician in my previous career, we all knew the best recipe
for success was to surround yourself with musicians who were better
than you, who wanted you to succeed, and who held you to their
own rigorous standards. This is the environment I found at EPA and
the effect it continues to have on the rate and extent of my personal
growth has been incredible.

l think what’s helped me grow and learn the most at EPA are the
people; everyone in tax has been helpful, but my office mates (Cody
and Zach) and my PFM (Jeremy) have been key contributors to my
success.
Cody and Zach have always made themselves available to help since
my first day here. Even when they are busy, they find a stopping point
and are always eager to address my questions and build my
understanding of our role at EPA. I have never felt like a burden to
them.
Jeremy has been equally helpful in a hands-on way. If I ever have a
question, I never feel hesitant to ask. I also believe that Jeremy has
contributed to my success by understanding that there is a learning
curve. I never feel pressured to be an expert at this position, which has
enabled me to learn the position in a way that isn’t stressful.
Overall, I believe the people on our team have contributed the most to
my success by being open, helpful, and understanding.

37. — Bob Ennis (founded firm in 1978)
Looking back at a life-long career as a CPA and the founder of
Ennis Pellum CPAs, my reflections on the success I’ve enjoyed are
as follows: Working hard, taking care of clients and hiring great and
dedicated personnel was my personal road to success. Ray Hilliard
and I didn’t set out by defining big goals for the firm; instead, we
were determined to build a great firm which looked after its clients.
By doing just that, the firm grew and became successful. Having a
spouse who supported me and who I could rely on throughout my
career to take care of our children was incredibly important. I was
also willing to make sacrifices to focus on important things such as
setting money aside for education, retirement and other things that
have provided my family and I with opportunities and enjoyment
throughout my life.

41. — Russ Meyers (joined firm in 2008)
Success in my life, in my career, in my family or any kind of
endeavor is, in the long-run, the responsibility of me as an
individual. Only I can define what success means to me. My
success includes work/life balance, fulfillment, education, fun,
growth, and the satisfaction of being of service to others. Although
success is defined by me, my personal and professional
environment plays a big role in my ability to be able to achieve my
goals. I’m happier and more successful at my work and in my
personal life because of the support and encouragement I have
received over the years. ”

Success is the achievement of a combination of professional and
personal goals. The firm provides opportunities for flexibility and
maintaining a work-life balance, developing lasting relationships
and investing in the success of others, providing for our families,
and growing both professionally and personally.

49. “ For me personal success means being a good husband & father before
all other things. A major part of accomplishing both is to be a good
provider. There is give and take in all things and our profession requires
certain sacrifices various times throughout the year. The firm helps me
accomplish my goals in two ways. First, I am compensated for my
additional work hours during busy season which helps put some money
aside for things I would not otherwise be able to provide for my family.
The second is the flexibility we have outside of busy season. While I do
have limited family time during season, I have the ability to be more
involved the rest of the year when compared to having a traditional 9-5
job. As long as the firm continues to foster this type of flexibility and a
"family first" environment, while continuing to help me grow
professionally, I couldn't ask for anything else. ”

a perfect balance between my professional and my personal life,

The firm helps me achieve success by offering a flexible work
schedule, supportive leaders, and an amazing team who are all
committed to client success.

In the short term, success is knowing at the end of each day I was my
best self. I did all I could to the best of my ability, I was a good and kind
person, and I met the needs of my family. In the long term, success is
finding your niche, what you’re good at, what you’re passionate about.
For some, this is realized early in life. Others will need to search and
discover it as they move through life. Working at Ennis, Pellum, I feel I
have the freedom to find my niche. I am supplied with various
opportunities to try new things and work on different projects. I have the
necessary support from management, as well as their guidance when I
feel I need it.
“
”
55. Success means so many different things to me… Success is a pair
of smelly running shoes in the back of the car stinking up the car,
because that means that I was able to get out and get some
exercise in. Success is laughing and crying with your friends or
family, because I have built a strong relationship with them. Success
is taking a vacation/trip with my friends or family, because I am part
of team of people who I trust to take care of business in my absence.
Success means buying that new car, because I saved my money, or
I have the credit to make the purchase. Success is having a tasty
meal at mealtime everyday whether I purchased, someone
prepared, or I prepared it myself. Success is a peaceful sleep at
night, because I have met the day’s choices with the desired results.
Success is the comfort of a safe place to hang my hat, so it isn’t lost
the next time I want to wear it. Success means all the small things
that make up the day-to-day items that give me a sense of purpose
through the day. Success to me is the ability, means, and desire to
do the things I love with the people I love.

58. If I am unsure of something, my team is always willing to take
the time to help. I am grateful for how willing my collogues are
to not only answer my questions, but to take the time to make

elsewhere.
The culture at EPA is very warm and friendly, I feel like
everyone truly wants to get to know each other.

61. To me, success is not a destination, but rather a path we travel
through life. In our early years the path is mostly about learning,
growing, achieving and building; learning the things that will enable
us to build solid and loving families, and networks of positive
personal and professional relationships, and achieving rewarding
positions of influence in business and community. As we travel
further down our path, success still involves learning and growing,
but is less about achieving and building and more about sharing –
sharing of knowledge, experience, and the fruits of our earlier
successes to enrich the lives of others as they travel along their own
paths of success. If we travel our path with faith and optimism, and
with a balance of responsibility and enjoyment, our path will be one
of great success.

To me, having a successful career has always meant doing
something that truly helps other people. Working at Ennis Pellum
has allowed me to simultaneously provide a service that both helps
our community's businesses, while expanding on my professional
and personal goals.
Despite multiple hard deadlines throughout the year, we actively
maintain accurate financials for businesses while supporting their
growth and development. We achieve this by having a great team
that collectively appreciates hard work and prioritizes flexible
personal time.
