Red and White Blood Cells There are three basic types of blood. White blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. White blood cells help defend the body from diseases. They go around the virus and digest it. Red blood cells drop off carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen.

Platelets Platelets come from bone marrow. They clot the blood so that the blood won’t pour out of your body.
How the Blood Works The heart pumps the blood threw   out the body. Blood drops off carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen from the heart. The blood helps the body by dropping oxygen to all of the body parts so it can function.
HIV and AIDS HIV stands for Human Immuno Virus. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.  HIV is a blood virus acquired from sexual intercourse or by touching someone whose blood is infected with HIV. Drug addicts get HIV from sharing the same needles for drugs like heroin.
HIV and AIDS (continued) If HIV is not treated correctly it will turn into AIDS. AIDS can be prevented with the right medications. People in the 80’s did not know about thes procedures so most people would have died within 10 years with AIDS.
