Cycling began in the late 19th century with early velocipedes and penny-farthings. It soon developed into a popular international sport governed by the UCI. The first recorded cycling race was in 1868 near Paris. There are four main disciplines: road cycling, track cycling, cyclo-cross, and mountain biking. Road cycling races include individual time trials, multi-day stage races, and one-day classic races. Fair play in cycling means treating opponents with dignity, respecting officials' decisions, and being a role model for youth. However, some cyclists have used performance-enhancing drugs due to psychological, emotional, and social pressures.
