ALMIGHTY,
CREATOR
THE ALMIGHTY
268. Of all the divine attributes, only God's omnipotence is named
in the Creed: to confess this power has great bearing on our lives.
We believe that his might is;
universal, for God who created everything also rules everything
and can do everything.
God's power is loving, for he is our Father,
and mysterious, for only faith can discern it when it "is made
perfect in weakness".
THE ALMIGHTY
"He does whatever he pleases”
269. The Holy Scriptures repeatedly confess the universal power of God.
He is called the "Mighty One of Jacob", the "LORD of hosts", the "strong
and mighty" one. If God is almighty "in heaven and on earth", it is
because he made them. Nothing is impossible with God, who disposes his
works according to his will. He is the Lord of the universe, whose order
he established and which remains wholly subject to him and at his
disposal. He is master of history, governing hearts and events in keeping
with his will: "It is always in your power to show great strength, and who
can withstand the strength of your arm?
THE ALMIGHTY
270. God’s Fatherhood and power shed light on one another, because God
reveals His power by the filial adoption that he gives us. ("I will be a
father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord
Almighty,"): finally by his infinite mercy, for he displays his power at its
height by freely forgiving sins.
THE ALMIGHTY
271 God's almighty power is in no way arbitrary: "In God, power, essence,
will, intellect, wisdom, and justice are all identical. Nothing therefore can
be in God's power which could not be in his just will or his wise intellect."
THE ALMIGHTY
The mystery of God's apparent powerlessness
272 Faith in God the Father Almighty can be put to the test by the
experience of evil and suffering. God can sometimes seem to be absent
and incapable of stopping evil.
But in the most mysterious way God the Father has revealed his almighty
power in the voluntary humiliation (Philippians 2;7) and Resurrection of
his Son, by which he conquered evil. Christ crucified is thus "the power of
God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men,
and the weakness of God is stronger than men." It is in Christ's
Resurrection and exaltation that the Father has shown forth "the
immeasurable greatness of his power in us who believe".
THE ALMIGHTY
273 Only faith can embrace the mysterious ways of God's almighty power.
This faith glories in its weaknesses in order to draw to itself Christ's
power. The Virgin Mary is the supreme model of this faith, for she
believed that "nothing will be impossible with God", and was able to
magnify the Lord: "For he who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his name."
THE ALMIGHTY
274 "Nothing is more apt to confirm our faith and hope than holding it
fixed in our minds that nothing is impossible with God. Once our reason
has grasped the idea of God's almighty power, it will easily and without
any hesitation admit everything that [the Creed] will afterwards propose
for us to believe - even if they be great and marvelous things, far above
the ordinary laws of nature."

Editor's Notes

  • #2 The first group reporter discussed about God “the Father.” and now we, the 2nd group reporters will discuss “Almighty/Creator” -
  • #3 Being the “Almighty” this indicates only that God’s power is encompassing and has dominion over all His creation. And the attitude of a Father is really loving and caring. For God created all things out of nothing and out of love. By this theological virtue, or intuitive virtue “faith” we believe without any hesitation/doubt in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. In the philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard we call it “leap of faith.” for in faith we make assent to God. Thus, When We recite the Creed, immediately after professing our faith in God the Father Almighty, we affirm that he is “the Creator of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.” just like what st. Theophilos of Antioch said, “God is called “Almighty” because he rules and compasses all things. For the heights of the heavens and the depths of the abysses and the limitations of the world are in His hands.” because of this no one could imagine what it means to enjoy the power without limits. The next slide, number 269 confirms this.
  • #5 *Through baptism we become God’s children… *And in the sacrament of confession we are forgiven of our sins, but underlining theme of mercy here is when God sent his Son to save the world and for the forgiveness of sins. (optional) As we observe also in the mass, when the priest says, “look not on our sins, but on the faith of your church…”
  • #6 For the reason that God is Almighty "He does whatever he pleases and he knows his creatures, he knows everything .” and nothing or no one can contain his might.
  • #7 Diri na dason masulod ang mga pamangkutanon sang mga tawo, that if God is the Almighty one, why there is suffering and evil in this world? Ngaman maantus pagid ang tawo knd pwedi nya malang dulaon ining suffering and evil? In cosmology, the topic creation and annihilation. Creation means a generation of something out of nothing, where as annihilation is a generation of something to nothing. For the reason that God is the Almighty, he created all things in this world/universe. However he can also annihilate all things, but as the nature of God who is good and loving, he cannot do annihilate for it is against His Nature. What God did is, God has shown forth His almighty power most mysteriously through the Cross and Resurrection.
  • #8 For without this gift of faith, hy useless ang tanan nga ginhimo sang Dios para sa aton, because reason alone is unable without faith. As far as our subject matter is concerned.
  • #9 Kung ano aton gina tuohan, we embrace it because this is for our salvation. and that this faith is given by God to us to nurture it and share it to others who do not know God.
