Last month, I along with my colleague, Naresh, was travelling to Bhubneshwar from Ahemedabad. We were supposed to break our journey for meeting with a client in Thane. However, the meeting got cancelled at the last minute, and we were left with an entire day to explore Thane, which is also popular by the name of the City of Lakes.

1. THANE – THE CITY OF LAKES
Last month, I along with my colleague, Naresh, was travelling to Bhubneshwar from Ahemedabad. We were
supposed to break our journey for meeting with a client in Thane. However, the meeting got cancelled at the last
minute, and we were left with an entire day to explore Thane, which is also popular by the name of the City of Lakes.

Given the fact that we had only a day to see the various famous sites of Thane, we prepared an itinerary in advance.
Being frequent travelers we were well aware of how to book food on train and so ordered our breakfast to be
delivered at the station itself. After enjoying a quick bite, we booked a taxi from outside the station and went directly
to the famous Ambarnath temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva and constructed from intricately carved black stone.

2. After spending some time there we went to see the Har Har Gange waterfalls inside the Suraj Water Park, which
holds the distinction of being the highest manmade waterfall in India. We then proceeded to the Sudhagrah Fort, an
extremely ancient fort dating back to around 2nd
century AD. Our next stop was the Upvan Lake, which is considered
to be the biggest lake in the city. We enjoyed a light lunch by the lake side, before proceeding to the city’s most
famous tourist hot spot, namely the Thane Creek. This creek is a major Bird Conservation site in India and we
enjoyed the amazing view of several different species of aviators within their natural surroundings.
By the time we left the Creek, we were totally exhausted and hence went directly to the station to wait for our train
to Bhubneshwar. The day long exploration of the city of lakes proved to be a refreshing and memorable break from
what turned out to be an extremely hectic and boring business trip. With so many other sites still left to explore,
Naresh and me are looking forward to visiting the city once again to conduct that meeting with our client, and
complete our sightseeing, especially of the various lakes and temples that Thane is so famous for.
