This document discusses thermography of large objects. It notes that it is not possible to capture very large objects in a single thermal image if the camera cannot be far enough away. The solution is to take multiple partial images and stitch them together into a panorama using Testo's panorama image assistant software. This allows the entire large object to be analyzed and documented in a single image rather than having to view and compare multiple separate images. The panorama assistant is available on the Testo 885 and 890 thermal imagers and provides both an overview and detail of large objects.

Analysing large objects in one thermal image.
It is actually not possible to thermograph very large
objects with one image, if one cannot move far enough
away from the object. Several images are the only
solution. However, in order not to have to administer,
view and compare several images, but to be able to
analyse and document the entire object at a glance, there
is now the Testo panorama image assistant. It simply
stitches several images together to one total view.

The application
When “just going further away” simply doesn’t work.
Not only the size of a measurement object can become a challenge in
thermography. Spatial limitations such as walls, neighbouring buildings
and streets or the security zones of adjacent objects, can result in it
not being possible to record the measurement object with a single
image. Even at sufficient range, users often reach the limits of the
imager resolution: if the measurement object is to be presented in total,
the thermal image may no longer be sufficiently detailed. The way out
of the dilemma: Record several images separately. However, viewing
and analysing several images increases the time and effort required. A
total analysis of the measurement object at a glance is often more
useful. Thermal irregularities can be better illustrated than in a separate
analysis in several image sections.

Testo thermal imagers already have light wide-angle lenses as standard this allows you to present an area of 176 m² in one image at a distance
– so they can take thermal images of larger image section than with of 10 m. With the panorama assistant, you can not only inspect large
normal lenses anyway. If this is not sufficient, the panorama assistant objects while retaining full detail: it is also a very efficient instrument for
