TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
Melissa van Huyssteen completed her schooling as a member of the Grade 12 class at Treverton College
this year.
I have been acquainted with her in the classroom, on the sports field and as a boarder for the past five years.
Melissa has proved herself to be a sound academic and should achieve excellent results this year.
Melissa is an outstanding sportswoman. She has swum for the A-Team since Grade 8, making the KZN
Midlands side for butterfly in 2008 and as a result was awarded full school colours. She has also
represented the athletics A-team since Grade 8, was appointed Athletics Captain in 2008, and has
represented the KZN Midlands team from 2005 to 2008. She was awarded full colours in 2007 and 2008
and honours in 2008.
She has played for the First Hockey team from 2006 to 2008, when she captained the side. She has
represented a KZN Midlands side since 2006, making the UnderlSA side in 2008 for which she was
awarded honours. She also received the Best Player of the year 2008 and Best Defender awards at a recent
hockey festival. She also played First Team indoor hockey from 2006 to 2008, when she captained me side.
She was selected for the UnderlS Provincial squad in 2007.
In waterpolo Melissa made the South African UnderlSA squad, representing the KZN side from 2004 to
2006. She captained the First Team in 2008. Her great contribution to this sport earned her yet another
Honours Award as well as a Certificate of Excellence. In November 2008 she was awarded the school's
prizes for All-RoundSporting Ability and Sportswoman of the Year.
Treverton College has a unique Outdoor Pursuits Programme and Melissa has taken part with great
enthusiasm deservedly earning her Drakensberg, Summit, Midmar Mile and Polar Bear awards. As a result
of her achievements she was awarded a team award for Outdoor Pursuits. In adventure racing she was a
member of the Treverton team placed fifth at the KZN trials. She is also a keen squash player and has
maintained her place in the top 10 on the squash ladder.
Having participated in the school's management and leadership training courses, Melissa was unanimously
elected as Head Girl, earning the school's Award for Head Girl, Head of Trew House,the boarding
establishment and Head of Harland Sports House, where she carried out her many duties in impeccable
fashion. She is humble but displays immense strength of character.
Culturally. Melissa has featured in the school's major productions; Grease, Joseph and his Technicolor
Dream Coat and Fiddler on the Roof. Her contributions to the drama department earned her halfcolours.
Melissa is a truly remarkable young lady, proving her leadership ability over and over again. She
approaches all aspects of life with boundless energy and commitment. Her vivacious personality and sense
of honesty and sincerity made her a much liked and respected member of the Treverton Community and I
can confidentlyrecommendher to you.
