

Narration starts off with soothing music in the saying “It has been said that magic has vanished from
our world a long time ago”. This gives the impression that this is an adventure film.



The music speeds up the rhythm and becomes more happy as the narration starts to tell us where the
story takes place and where. “It began in 1985 in a town just outside Boston. It was Christmas eve and
all of the children were in high spirits.” This is to help the audience understand where the movie is
being set and what events are going on.



All of this was not a genre signifier yet. However, the next line was, in fact, a huge one. The narrator
then says “It is a time where all the kids gather and pick on the Jewish kid”. This type of comedy is
called black/dark comedy as we find other people’s misfortune funny.



In the minute 7:47, the intro started. The music that started with the song that said “everybody needs
a best friend” as the title sequence came up.
