• Stressful when every job must be managed while exceptions are popping up
(cigarettes, strong coffee and lots of bad language)
Decision support, dynamic dispatch
• Decision-support solutions automate the routine allowing focus on the
exceptions
• Dynamic dispo constantly updates the plan as new jobs come in
• Technology is coming that learns the operation and can 'predict' where and
when new jobs will occur
• Good solutions make suggestions but can be over-ruled by the dispo
• Dispo can't be replaced by the computer

Our experience

• Research of the mathematical models behind the optimisation
method is needed first
• Long-term benefits could be huge for the operators that have this
