Management
 Technology management is a set of management disciplines that
allows organizations to manage their technological fundamentals to
create customer advantage.
 Typical concepts used in technology management are:
a. Technology strategy (a logic or role of technology in organization),
b. Technology forecasting (identification of possible relevant
technologies for the organization, possibly through technology
scouting),
c. Technology roadmap (mapping technologies to business and
market needs), and
d. Technology project portfolio (a set of projects under development)
and technology portfolio (a set of technologies in use).
The role of the technology management function in an organization is to
understand the value of certain technology for the organization. Continuous
development of technology is valuable as long as there is a value for the
customer and therefore the technology management function in an
organization should be able to argue when to invest on technology
development and when to withdraw.
 It refers to a set of management disciplines which allow managing technological
fundamentals to create customer advantage.
 The management of the technology usage for humans’ benefits, in terms of
design, development, optimization, and control of a technological product,
process or service, as well as the evaluation and prediction of users’ acceptance
and adoption.
 Technology management is set of management disciplines that allows
organizations to manage their technological fundamentals
 The management of the use of technology for human’s benefits, in terms of
planning, design, optimization, control of a technological product, process or
service, as well as the evaluation and prediction of users’ acceptance and
adoption.
 Technology management covers all aspects of
organising technology knowledge, technology forecasting, technology developm
ent, technology commercialisation and technology usage through
the technology life-cycle.
Evolution
 Technology management can be conceived as the development and exploitation of a firm’s
technological capability.
 The evolution of technology management system is from low-level to high-level, which can
lead a firm to transform its technology performance from low to high.
 From an internal perspective, the evolution of the technology management system can
improve the efficiency of the use of technology resources, enabling firms to achieve the
maximum output with limited resources.
 Additionally, the evolution of the technology management system can also help firms
accumulate related technology resources and further form a technology resources base.
 The technology resources base can help firms develop a higher level technology management
system.
 From an external perspective, the evolution of the technology management system will meet
the needs of the rapid technology change.
 The evolution will result in the increasing of the maturity of each technology management
subsystem and the improvement of the cooperation among different technology management
subsystems.
 Finally, the technology performance of a firm will increase with the evolution of the
technology management system.
