Alisha Sarr, a 4-year old Angolan girl presented with headaches, fatigue, joint pain, and swelling of the hands and feet. On examination, she appeared pale with visible swelling of the left hand and upper left abdominal region. Testing showed a raised white blood cell count within the normal range, and she was positive for anemia with low red blood cell count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit levels. Her fasting blood glucose was normal.
